Tempest Mk.I, Mk.II, Mk.V NV768, Mk.V EJ518
#1

I know there is a lot of work being done, but I wanted to put forth these ideas before I forgot.

Since we have Spitfire Mk.I to Mk.XIV, why not have a few more Tempest variants? I am most interested in the Mk.I and the Mk.V NV/EJ with annular radiators.

Mk.I:

"As part of the power plant testing, Napier had developed a unique annular radiator for use on the Tempest, in an effort to streamline the aircraft by doing away the big scoop radiator.
The radiator development program used two modified Tempest V, serials EJ 518 (fitted with a Sabre VI) and NV 768. NV 768 was later fitted with a ducted spinner with the same diameter as the fuselage and, although test flown, the spinner was not actually planned for use on production Tempests. Neither feaure was incorporated onto Tempest production line and the aircrafts were scrapped after the war."

Why would the makers of the Tempest insult this beautiful bird this way  looks like Owen Wilson's nose...

For the same reason North American did this...

To make their plane better.

Anyways, I support the Tempest II as that would have seen combat in the Invasion of Japan and that is something I'm working on. Still, all of them would be great to have.

I would think that all of these are interesting but the Mk.I with the scoop under the nose is the best:

Just noticed that this picture concerns not the Tempest Mk. I but the the Fury Prototype LA610 reengined with the Napier Sabre VII after test trials with the Rolls-Royce Griffon 85:

Quote:LA610 was eventually fitted with a Napier Sabre VII, which was capable of developing 3,400-4,000 hp (2,535-2,983 kW). As a result it became the fastest piston engined Hawker aircraft, reaching a speed of around 485 mph (780 km/h).
One of the most beautifull too...

Since the Tempest Mk. I and the Sabre VII powered LA610 were only prototypes my vote goes for the Tempest Mk. II with the Bristol Centaurus.

Beautifull plane too and more docile than the Sabre powered ones...
