DVI or VGA ? Which connect best for IL-2 1946
#1

Howdy All,

I have a Samsung T260HD monitor/HDTV 1080P for a display. I am currently using the VGA connect. My computer cpu and graphics are: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400 black edition processor and a EVGA 8800 GT superclocked....OS is Win XP32 HE... I am not experiencing any problems with this set up...Just curious if the DVI would be better for game play in IL-2 1946?

Any advice or experience related would be most apprectiated....

Thank You,

Doesn't matter what game you pick. DVI will just look better than VGA. Go DVI (or DVI-HDMI). That's the short answer.

Long answer: VGA is an analogue signal. Signals degrade over distance, but analogue signals loose information if it degrades a little. Also, that analogue signal comes from a digital source (conversion Digital->Analogue), is transported over the cable to the screen and then goes digital again (conversion Digital->Analogue). Every conversion is not perfect, so the picture quality degrades a bit. So you have two conversions and an amount of cable length degrading the picture with ghosting, inaccurate colour, phase shift and what not.

DVI to DVI (or to HDMI) has a digital signal with no conversions along the way, so you get on screen what is supposed to be there.

Folks, it really, really made a difference Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin I played a couple of NTRK's to look for improvement......and it is very apparent to me.....this is the way to go....I will not be changing back to the VGA connect....

All I did was change the cables, and select the DVI input on the moniter screen....and it is working flawless.....it is just that simple.....

I have always had a problem when trying to run the game in DVI, instead of the game fitting my screen, i get kind of this "scroll" thing with my mouse... where i move my mouse up or down and the game window scrolls... I don't understand why it happens....

Howdy again,

AIRdomination, If you have an Nvidia card, Go to the Nvidia Control Panel, 3D Settings/Manage 3D Settings and then in the window on the middle right portion, select the Program Settings tab and a list will be generated of the features that can be selected and adjusted....If you have not done this before, STEP 1: Select a program to customize...and select the appropriate IL-2 program and Add it...

Step 2: This is a list of features that can be adjusted by you, scroll down to the bottom of the list and you will see "Vertical sync" and then change it to "Force On" and exit the program.....after I make adjustments to programs, I always reboot system...and I think that is a good suggestion to follow....

I have no idea what to do if you have an ATI card.....I run my Nvidia card in Open GL and this works for me.....I hope it works for you....I have also noticed that my conf.ini changed (not by me) to the
1600x1200 resolution...I don't know the how or why of this...but it works and I am not inclined to change it back just yet.....So, you might want to check all of your settings after the cable switching....

Comment on Game Play (Internet).....I play on HyperLobby and a lot on AAA....this change from VGA to DVI has made a world of difference to me....What I could not see before (enemy aircraft at a distance) I now am able to see and make myself a harder target

In the last six months, four things have significantly enhanced this game for me.......They are:
1. TeamSpeak
2. Joining a Squad
3. Track ir
4. Change from VGA to DVI

Again, Thanx Everybody,

For some reason this does not help get rid of the problem... the game screen is still partially showing on my monitor... and when i move the mouse up or down to the top or bottom, it scrolls the entire thing...

Is the game running in full screen? Is your desktop resolution set higher than the resolution of your screen? Does it happen when you move the mouse around on the desktop? Is the game running a higher resolution than the desktop/monitor? What graphics card? What OS is being used?

Sorry, playing remote helpdesk leads to a lot of questions to get a good idea of the problem. Big Grin

- Is the Game Running on Full screen? Yes
- Is my desktop resolution set higher than the resolution of my screen? No
- Does it happen when I move my mouse around desktop? Only when the game is running and only if the cursor is visible.
- Is the game Running on a higher resolution than the desktop/monitor? Yes, it always has, but in VGA that never poses a problem because it fits the screen perfectly.
- What graphics card? GeForce 9600 GSO
- What OS? XP

My monitors resolution is 1680 x 1050. I run the game on 1600 x 1200 with absolutely NO problems on VGA, but I have the scroll problem on DVI.

Help?
