wwii airplanes launched from catapult
#1

Sorry if this has been asked before :

Could the catapult MOD be adapted in some way to be able to launch airplanes from catapults in ships other than aircraft carriers?

I am thinking here in Hurricanes launched from merchant ships in convoys, hidroplanes like Mitsubishi A6m or Arado launched from battleships or cruisers, and so on.

My guess is that it must not be an easy MOD to develop, given that it would probably require also modifications in several ships to incorporate catapults, but wouldn't it be a cool MOD?

Best regards,

JC

This would be pretty hard. I think it would involve someone making a new ship in a new slot that is skinned to look like a merchantman, for example, but to the game would actually be an aircraft carrier with a tiny, tiny flight deck basically the length and width of the catapult.

I won't say it can't be done...people have done some amazing things with this sim...but it's certainly more than I have the time and/or energy to pursue right now.

Fireball

P.S It would be really cool though! Smile

I like the idea of the Hurricat in-game but the catapult would be the hard part as it used a rato instead on cables or steam.(see pic below)

But having catapults on battleships could add more imursion to a on or offline campaign/ single mission.

And I thought America was bad for all the disposable and non-environmentally friendly products, Britian is dumping entire airplanes into the Ocean! Lol, all in good humor, now let's get back on topic before polotics kicks in.

Anyhow, could someone explain how the catapult system would code? Is there a way to make an invisable catch wire that starts attached to the aircraft, and acts like a catapult. Or mabye even a catchwire in front of the wheels that exhibits negative force? Whatever, prepare for a big push when you release the chocks...

The Hurricats purpose was to defend convoys against attack by the FW-200s and U-Boats. The Hurricats where Hurricane MK.Is lanched from a crude catapult device using a rato system. The plan was for theses Hurricats to fly up and shoot down the enemy planes and ditch near the convoy and the pilot was rescued and in some cases the plane was salvaged and used again. The Hurricat Program was a stopgap until longer range ships and planes could cover the convoys that traveled between the United States and Great Britian.
