[WIP] Retextured New Guinea Map v.2.0
#1

Hello All,

Here is my version of the default New Guinea Map, when you install it will replace previous default New Guinea load.ini.

I've used some repainted default 4.09b1m textures, some own ones plus a repainted version of awesome Handy's texture 'Handy Beachmuddy' (hope it's OK)

Update v1.1:
- Altered textures for the ground, make it more 'oranger' to make it feel more realistic after some research.
- Altered sea - rivers color to make them feel less blueish, using fantastic Maraz's mediterranean settings (hope it's OK); a more correct color for the rivers would be clear brown but unfortunately they share the color with the sea and nobody wants a brown sea, right? Smile

Update v1.2:
- Altered textures

Update v2.0:
- New version, altered almost everything. More jungle, less mud, and some agriculture. What do you think?

Known issues (not to be solved as would require complete re-editing of the map):
- The concrete airfields (and obviously the shape) are incorrect, but modify them to grassy-dust airfields implies modify default concrete textures affecting all the maps. Personally, I'm using currently Vpmedia's color of the ground airstrips, that fits very well both with places as different as New Guinea or Germany.

Here are some screenshots:

For enjoying this map I recommend also:

- Full perfect settings
- Jaypack44 Palm textures
- PhilK's campaign 'Bastards of the Bismark sea' (the screenshots above are from this campaign)

Special thanks:
Artists like Handy, Vpmedia, Maraz, Pacific team, which have inspired my map.
Campaign creators like PhilK and Miker8.
AAA community.
Oleg and 1C guys, without them nothing of this would be possible.

Regards, WhiteCat

Hi WHITECAT, 1st thank you for your sharing work about this great map, but looking to yout load.ini structure I've found somethig I would like to know:

LowLand2 = land/pacific/JungleKT.tga

now into _Text folder there isn't any "pacific" folder nor "JungleKT.TGA" file into any of your folder.
I've serached into forum other mod-maps but I can't find anywhere so I ask you if you can address me about this. thank you

Big Grin Thanks!

@ Goblin:

That's because that texture is standard and therefore I have not included it in the mod. But still it loads well for you, right? Wink

@ Agracier:

I've updated the link with a .rar file instead .zip one. I use Winrar standard. I've added also a Rapidshare link just in case Smile

thx WhiteCat, its a real treat to play a campaign on your map, cose most of the time i skip the long flights afther take off when using the New Guinea map, but your densed forrest is verry convincing and awesome to look at , [ ...i don't want to get lost there! Confusedhock: ] and because of that i skip at a later time just looking at the sunset and the colors merging with the details of this map , thx m8

Smile Many thanks!! Still a little bit tweaking needed, though. I'd like to change airstrip colours to match them better with the rest but I have to find out how. Also maybe I do the mud a little greener.

@ Miker8

Big Grin Wow!! that's a real compliment specially coming from you!! I'm your fan since I discovered your Singapore campaign, the atmosphere is terrific, specially how cunningly are added ships and fishermen's villages. For me it's still one of the top ones; by the way, my next target is Singapore map  I'm doing already some research and some consultations with pacific maps modding experts, I'd like to do a better job than with New Guinea.

Beautiful work Whitecat!

Is there any possibility of changing the concrete strips into dirt ones?

AFAIK those strips were never given artificial surfaces.

@ PhilK

Thanks Phil!! Definitely I don't like the runways, but the problem is that I'm not sure if changing them can affect to other current maps, that's something I want to avoid so I need to investigate how to do it. Anyway sorry by the delay in response as I've returned to work in a new job and it's going to be harder to me now to find time for IL2... but I'll try!! Big Grin
