[Map] vkg_El_Alamein v1.3 (FINAL)

From Mersah Matruh in the west to just beyond El Alamein in the east.

Thanks to Mandrill7 for the concept -

This map requires the following mods:
dlv Egypt objects -
LAL Rone Fortifications and hangar mods -

This map has been tested to run on a 4.09 install with only these three mods added.

Optional:

ZUTI's airfield friction mod

This mod allows the map maker to smooth any area for use as an airfield without the need to lay blank plates - good for FPS and a more elegant solution.

Note: the airfield friction mod is included in ZUTI's moving dogfight server, so if you are running that, you shouldn't need it separately.

This is optional because there are two versions of the map included - one for use with the airfield mod and one without.

This map has been tested to work with UI 1.1.1, with the addition of the Egypt objects. The fortifications and hangar mods are already included in the UI 1.1.1, so if you have that, all you need is the Egypt objects.

Download contains 21 new desert textures from Google Earth - Egypt, with BumpH files. Included also are a complete set of QMB missions -

All textures and ed maps are indexed to minimize size and speed loading times. Total download size is about 22 meg (compressed).

Delete previous versions. Extract in your IL2 directory, and follow instructions for what to add to the all.ini and conf.ini files for which version of the map you'd like to use (note of course that if you had a previous version you won't have to make the .ini edits).

There are two actors and load.ini files included for use with ZUTI's airfield mod or without. Now you'll have a choice! Edit your all.ini and conf.ini (for the qmb missions) as specified in the included readme's for which version you want to use.
1) Texture paths changed from "_Tex\land\summer\vkg_Egypt\" to "_Tex\vkg_textures\vkg_Egypt\"
2) refined bumpH files
3) refined map_c coastline to smooth anomalies
4) airfield textures color adjusted to blend better
5) airfield textures renamed to get rid of trees appearing on airfields
6) water color changed
7) HighClouds changed from "Clouds256.tga_med" to "MTO_Clouds256.tga" which should solve some compatibility issues for those not using vp_media default map upgrade pack. (thanks, VP, for the heads up! )

version 1.2:
8)edited QMB mission names to work with both map version (with or without ZUTI's airfield mod)
9) removed Hotchkiss tanks from QMB missions to enhance compatibility (thanks chap and forager!)

version 1.21:
10)Compatibility patch to remove flag objects not included in the hangar, fortifications, or egypt objects mods -

version 1.3 [FINAL]
11) Adjusted brightness of certain textures and disabled the file "whitechalk_Fields_A.BumpH". You can enable it if you prefer.

Well, yeah something's wrong right now, I downloaded it, and the map does appear, but for a reason, I can't get it to play.

It's as if I'm getting an error thing on when I do try it on. :???:

Another thing, what's the Quick section on the conf.ini files ?? I can't even find it ?? :???:

Works gret for me I just dont know why the buildings are not showing on the air fields as I have the LAL rone hanger mod.

So, how do we get those Quick section to work in there ??

I've tried lots of stuff in the conf.ini and other stuff like this, and nothing works.

It's still possible I did something wrong though by previously making a mistake and tried to install it manually.

Anyone could tell me how to uninstall the map and only the map ?? I just don't want to uninstall the game, I really hate doing this.

the read me was pretty simple if you dont have the Zuti mods stuff dont use the very first lines... use this line

CustomXX=vkg_El_Alamein_BP where xx is your sequencial number in config. file


use this line and add to the

ALL.ini file in the map mods folder

vkg_El_Alamein_BP vkg_El_Alamein/load_blank_plate.ini

yo udo have a mods folder right and you did install ui 1.1.1?

right?

you need to add that into the folder did you add a QMB into the mods folder?

I guess AAA should provide a tutorial on how to add the QMB for some people..

I cant find the QMB mods so I guess some one will have to point it out.

CAF_Blackjack, you need to create the [quick] section at the end of your conf file.

Look here for guidance:

The entry should look like this and you must have QMBPlus installed

[quick]
Custom0=NWEurope
Custom1=MTO
Custom2=Bessarabia

Add this to the above list:
Custom3=vkg_El_Alamein_BP

Now the list looks like this:

[quick]
Custom0=NWEurope
Custom1=MTO
Custom2=Bessarabia
Custom3=vkg_El_Alamein_BP

If the map you want to use is not in this list, it will NOT show up in the QMBPlus list.

So, no need to uninstall the map, just make sure the quick entry is correct, you have QMBPlus installed and the mission pack with the map is placed in the Quick folder.

Thanks guys.

The reason it won't play doesn't seem be about the map itself, even when I try to save my coops, singles and campaigns look like it's another related bug I hadn't previously noticed yet. Normally the map looks like it's ok and ready, I tried to see if the map was on the list, well it is.

But, everytime I try to design a coop, single, campaign myself with the full mission builder, it just won't save much less play.

Beyond that, I think the map would work great, did anyone started to work a Battle of El-Alamein ?? It's been a while since I was hoping to play such battle, but either from a German or Italian perspective.

Italian Bomber
Italian Fighter ( CANT-Z-1007 or hopefully the SM-79 we still hope to see someday if they didn't do it so far )
German Bomber ( JU-88A4 or HE-111H6 )
German Fighter ( BF-109G6 or FW-190 )

I'd say playing something like that would be wonderful to play.

One more question, about the Quick Folder, it was included in the missions folder, but the main mission only included Single, Coop and Campaigns, what are these things files and what am I to do with them ??
