Fuel Tank Selector
#1

Hey,
I'm having a problem with IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946. My problem is that when I am hit in the fuel tanks or suffer a fuel tank leak, I run out of fuel and there's no way to switch between fuel tanks with a fuel tank selector switch. Is there a solution for this? I can't switch between tanks and I am without fuel. I want to able to switch to the right fuel tanks if my left wing fuel tanks are hit or the right wing is hit I want to be able to switch between the right engine fuel tanks and vice-versa. I want to switch fuel over if my number two engine is hit and be able to switch over the first tank if it is hit and transitioning to the third engine or fourth engine and so on and so forth, etc. Is there a way anybody can fix this or a control in the game for this? I'm just wondering.

This is a VERY long standing complaint that Oleg refuses to fix and now the AAA community hopefully will.

Not all aircraft are fitted with such devices so I hope the AAA team research thoroughly before releasing such a mod.

Another method used was to use airpressure to pressurise wing tanks and force fuel into the main fuselage tank from which it would feed to the engine.

I think the reason this wasnt modelled in the game originally is probably because having one tank empty and one tank full would mess with the flight model of the plane. i.e. if your right wingtank has less fuel than the left, your left wing will want to dip.

So the game gets around this problem by using fuel from all tanks at the same time, regardless of where the leak is.

Would be interesting to see if any modders can fix this but it could mean a lot of work

Yes, it would be great. All you have to do to compensate for this problem is add some aileron trim to try and compensate for this. It's no big problem, really.

Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator Two modeled that very accurately. I used to switch between tanks all the time. And draining one wing over another would dip the heavy side down, very realistic. So it CAN be done!

Maybe if there was a fuel tank selector switch, we could use the tank behind the pilots seat, in the P51 first! This is what they did in WW2.
It was very unstable with just fuel in the fuselage. Maybe this is why the Mustangs departs flight so easy? I just thought maybe Oleg didn't
like US.

Riiiiight, and that's why he would mess all other planes with multiple internal/droptanks, plus a sim that was originally based just around the Eastern front... just because he hates the US...

I'd like such an option. In fact, I'd like it a lot - proper fuel control was essential in air combat. I can't reme, ber how many times I've read about engines cutting out, because the pilot forgot to switch off the tank before dropping it, or he didn't cut off and release a hit and flaming tank...

That would add immensely to the realism of Il-2.
