Storm of War will follow Rise of Flight 'pay as you go' mode

News i have not heard... my be true, may not be true. http://www.freewebs.com/heinkill/stormofwarnews.htm

On the 1C forum Oleg said, "We will go with (paid add-ons) with SoW. It would be more complex in development and time consuming to go with so many free updates with aircraft and other objects. However we will keep some part as free updates with new content and of course fixes if neccessary.

The first time this was quoted I couldn't find the post at 1C in Oleg's ready room or any SoW thread .. alot of pages so I may have missed it.

"news" posted, especially "qoutes" should link to source material IMO, so at least it can be viewed in context, and can be seen accurately.

Something tells me that they're only going to loose money (and customers) this way... Especially if SoW will follow the same direction as IL-2 as going.

Good. If they hadn't pissed away their company's future on free addons in the past, Maddox Games would be able to afford more than a skeleton crew of developers and we'd all have been playing SoW for the last 18 months.

I think that is a reasonable way to go.. and I have no issues with it.. They went with paid add ons for IL2.. and they sold well.. AEP, PF,PE2 46.. I see nothing wrong with paid add ons at all.. I know will be getting a good product.

Really, and after they sold the "add-ons"...what did we get? Abandoned for how many years? Baaaa....

If you can pay for expansions with several planes and stuff like in IL-2, ok.

But if they dare to make us pay to each airplane separately, I assure you they won't die of natural causes.

Just kidding, still, I would *HATE* to pay for each airplane separately, and wouldn't do it at all.

Remember the Pe2 and dreaded Boontybox expansion...that was close enough to paying for one plane...we all still did it though.

well that was the reason i never bought ROF in the first place. But isn't there a great future for Modders with SOW? when you have to pay for each addon?? btw does each add-on mean not ony planes but also groundobjects, arfields, textures, etc?

bah if that happens i seriously thinking of going back to online racing or just stay focussed on Il-2 here with MODS.

Regardless, and you can gnash your teeth as much as you like.. Oleg is still the best maker of WWII aircraft and we will buy it.. those that say they wont are lying to themselves..
I have eight IL2 bought for games.. the original, forgotten battles, ace expansion pack, pacific fighters, ostfront, battle over europe, IL2 complete edition, IL2 1946.. and never regretted paying for them.

Yes he is the greatest and yes i have some those add-ons too and i have no problems with it that way. But as i read it you get a base package and then if you want extra's (planes, etc) you must buy each of those sepperatly. No wi have problems with that last part only.

If thats the only way to get upgrades to the game and flyable aircraft then I'll gladly pay.. wev'e all seen the standard of the aircraft that are coming, I suspect there will be thousands that will gladly pay as well.
Just because there are changes that may be different to what has gone before, doesn't mean its all doom and gloom.. we just have to be prepared to do business in a different way.
If we were scared of change, there wouldn't be thousands of people on this site now would there.

Isn't he the only maker of WWII flightsim around at the moment, I don't know of any others!

Like both of you I have forked out for them all and have no problems with that way of doing things, but like Rowddy said I do have a bit of a problem with the idea of buying a cockpit for a plane that's all ready in-game, like the RoF model. I have less of a problem paying for a hole plane ie 3D model, FM, DM ect...

What I'm more concerned about is will BOB:SOW have DRM like RoF or Black Shark?

That said, still buying BOB:SOW, seeing as I've had it on order since 2006 Big Grin
