I was wondering if it would be possible to improve the rain effect in game, maybe using the particle system in 3dsmax to try and make it a bit more realistic,
i've flown through some heavy rain storms and its quite an experience, perhaps a rain effect on the cockpit similar but not quite as intense as the oil blotch mods
by Potenz, Holygrail and Avla, it would need to streak back over the canopy as well, a bit of heavy chop through the rain clouds would help with the effect, also what about
some water vapour and droplets on the canopy when flying through or emerging from any clouds. This is not a request i just want to know the possibilties.

That would be a great inprovement Smile
I also flew through rain once, in my glider,
It would be good if someone is able to make water that moves over the canopy.
and I saw the raindrups move over the wings, but I think you can't make that in il2

It might be possible to have a light misty smoke effect coming over the leading edge of the wing and trailing off the back as that is
exactly what it looks like in reality but it would have to be light almost barely visible but as for rain streaking back over the wings...
that might be pushing it.

i think Lock on Modern aircombat has a rain droplet effect on the windshield, it might give any potential producer of this mod som inspiration

That would be an interesting mod......

This is somewhat related to the 'rain' effects......... the sound.

I did a lot of flying in the Navy...... in bad weather of all kinds.

If you've 'flown' then you know that you do not 'hear' the rain once the engine(s)

have started. Its so darn loud with the engine noise and the effects of the aircraft

moving through the atmosphere that there is no 'rain' related noise.

I've flown through 'storms'..... and its kind of weird. Like watching a movie with the sound muted.

I mean you hear whats going on inside the plane, but not outside.

This reminds me of an old thread about the original il2 demo and the rain effectshttp://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/...t=rain+mod

Now thats interesting... i wonder if that effect was incorporated into the game and is lying dorment somewhere, so it is possible then to create a rain effect.
I can understand the game engine proberly not being powerfull enough to handle to many particles hence no waterfalls, flowing rivers etc but it might be able
to handle a few more and better rain drops than we have at present, i think the difficulty lays with aircraft on the runway where the ground needs to look wet
and the rain bounces off the surfaces.
