WIP: New Arctic area map from Mixx_
#1

Here is the new Arctic area map. It is made a Russian guy called Mixx_. I found this beauty only because mr. Agracier pointed it from Aviaskins forums to me.
I have changed the original name a bit easier and tested it with my AAA UI 1.1 version. For me it works fine. But i'm not sure what mods i have included... Hahah!!I Tested it with SAS latest too without problems and i quess it will work with UP 1.8 aswell...
There are some objects that might cause problems with some installations, but i have included those object in to DL file too. Textures are at 1024 resolution and i didn't want to chanege originals so i did leave them as they are.
We did have a bit of lanquage barrier here with ppl at Aviaskins, but thanks to google translator tool we could at least comunicate at the forums.
Download here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/o2yd5emwm ... r_beta.rar
3do files(if needed):
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ytqjmgyzmyl/3do.rar

Here are the installation directions:

Read before doing anything!

Just exctract to temporary folder and copy/paste exctracted MODS folder to \Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 and let overwrite if asked.

Copy/paste this line to \Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\MapMods\Maps\all.ini txt file:

mixx_Zapolar mixx_Zapolar/load.ini

If the came refuces to save missions or does not load. Copy/paste 3do file that i have included to \Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\STD\3do.
Mr Mixx has even included some missions in to the package too. I quess you know where to put them...
Happy testing

Kapteeni

Problem report to the specialist: D/loaded and installed everything according to instructions (mixxzapolar map and _Tex in MODS/mapmods/maps and the 3do objects in MODS/STD/3do etc...) and the map won't load.
This is what I get:
Section[MAP2D]not found in 'maps/mixx_zapolar/load.iniMoscowMoscow/load.ini
Any clues would be most welcome!
Thank you ,

You have messed your all.ini file. If i'm not mistaken
Open it and look for typos.
If not, send your all.ini here: copy/paste, you know!
This is the line that yuo should see at all.ini txt. file. It points to right load.ini file:

mixx_Zapolar mixx_Zapolar/load.ini

It tells to IL2 engine what files it should load and where.

It has nothing to do with Moscow load.ini (except Mixx is from Russia 8) )

Even the Norwegian villages looks right!
Best arctic map yet. And good for convoy attacs coz there are open sea at the top too!
I have noticed some bugs at airfields. Some of the waypoints needs some edithing.

Stupid me! When I copy/pasted the lines for the all.ini file, they "joined forces" with Moscow load.ini lines.
Thank you very much for your assistance (and for your great map productions)

Just flied sight-seeing tour over this map: it looks marvellous!
Especially granite rocks, which, as I have read, are typical for the landscape there.
One of the best maps I flied over in IL2.
@cgagan :
I did not installed 3do files which supplied kapteeni, and everything seems to be ok.
What I do recommend: after d/l, first unpack the whole thing into temporary folder, then
copy/paste individual folders according the proper folder structure,
backuping the files before eventual overwriting.
I hate just saying yes for the overwriting questions of some autoinstallers .
Thanks to kapteeni and to Mixx for excellent work.

Laziness is the mother of progress. My QMB missions can be found here:

Lovely map. The only criticism I have is that the author is inconsistent re whether there is surf on the sea coast. On some stretches of coast, you have a strip of surf and then a strip of no surf and then surf again. If that could be corrected, the map would be amazing!

The same textures could be used for any sub arctic map - including Alaska, northern Canada, Finland or the Aleutians.
