New Il-2 Install with the History Pack
#1

Hi chaps,

I want to create a new il-2 install with the history pack to run alongside my old one. My old one is 1.2 with some extra mods and mat-manager installed; so on paper it sounds relatively simple. I have copied all of these files to a new location, and now I want to get this running with the History Pack. So what do I do? I am not used to the layout of the History Pack, and I have only used JGSME with BoB2. So I need a bit of help Wink

Thanks in advance Big Grin

I'm installing it at this moment, it loads soooo fast!! Confusedhock:

That's one big advantage, i'm just installing 4.1 now, but in the read-me, they state install time of 5 minutes(depends of pc) but it took me an hour!! Confusedhock:

I'm also not used to these formats which they use, with JGSME...

I keep you posted!

OK, but I mean: Can I just simply update my old install to the latest 4.09? And then install hs4x, or do I have to delete my mods anf files folder? Smile

Hmmm, I don't know that, because I have put a clean IL-2 1946 4.08 in a map, copy it to different maps like HSFX or UP, and then patch it to 4.09, and then I put HSFX on top of it..

I don't know how it work's with already modded games :?:

My suggestion is: Clean install - patch - HSFX on top of it

The readme is not very specific it just says to install the history mod over il2 1946 patched to 4.09. Thats it. You might find your answers here:

http://www.242sqn.com/phpBB2/index.php in the il2 forum. I would do what Fryslanboy suggested.

Adding mods to HSFX or UP is NO different than adding mods to UI (you need the "wrapper" file though in the root folder). You create a MODS folder and stick the mods you want inside this folder just like UI 1.1/1.2. You do not have to use the JSGME to add mods unless you want the ability to add and remove your mods quickly.

I have been using JSGME for years (it was created originally for Silent Hunter 3) and it works very well for adding and removing mods without altering your original game files. I you look closely at the file structure in your JSGME folder, you will see that it is set up exactly as your origianl game. It has to be this way because the files you use in the JSGME overlay your original files one-to-one. This is the main difference between the JSGME method and the MODS method.

As you know the MODS method needs the "wrapper" file to tell the game to load the MODS files first and ignore all sebsequent files, but the JSGME method does not need a "wrapper" file because it just overlays the origianl files (putting the original files in the JSGME Beckup folder).

Bottom line is you can add all the mods you want to HAFX or UP as ling as you do it the same way as you did for UI and have the "wrapper" file.

OK, but my initial question is about installing HSFX first. I can back-up all my mods etc, I just need to know whether 4.09 can be installed over 1.2.....or if it can;t, what folders need to be removed. Wink

Thanks for the input so far chaps Wink

You could after removing some stuff. but its not a good idea if you want something to work.
its like reinstalling win xp over a old xp install, its better with a clean install.

So install your dvd then 408 then 409m then the hsfx 4.0 and then the hsfx 4.1 and you should be good to go.
in the new install you can ad mods by making yourself a mod folder or add effects and so by jsmge.

anyhow a new install is better and frankly quicker to do then trying to install over a old one.
Just remember to save missions, config.ini and user folder and all your settings are inplace with a copy and paste!Smile

Clean install from disk 4.07m----->4.08m--->4.09m----->Hsfx V 4.0-----> HSFX V 4.1
Dont any other way and you WILL have problems.

The problem is I have vista, and when I first tried to install off the disk to a different location it was asking me if I wanted to reinstall my previous version. In the end I gave up and just copied my modded 1.2 to another location so now I have two identical installs. I'm pretty savvy at installing mods, so if I knew what files to move or delete I am pretty sure I could get it running. Wink

edt: any thoughts on this http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1010.0.html ? Wink

philip.ed - IL-2 doesn't need to be 'installed' to run, the game runs from it's discrete folder. My suggestion is to take the following steps, assuming you're using Vista 32-bit and your game is installed to C:\program files\Ubisoft:

1.) Copy the ...\Ubisoft folder from ..\program files\ to the root of C:

2.) Uninstall IL-2

3.) Delete the ..\program files\Ubisoft folder

4.) Reinstall IL-2 to the C:\Ubisoft folder (you may have to rename your UI 1.2 installation, first.)

5.) Patch the new install to 4.09m

Save this new installation either by burning to a DVD, making a RAR package, a ZIP package, etc. THIS becomes your base installation of IL-2. If you need have another installation of the game, use this package as the base.

6.) For HSFX, Install HSFX 4.0, then install HSFX 4.1

The desired version of Il-2 will run from the C:\Ubisoft\your IL-2 folder. An additional benefit for Vista and Win7 users is that the UAC is much more relaxed with folders outside the Program Files folder.

Coster

[edit] Since I have to drives, my Ubisoft folder (and TS, IL-2 sticks, TrackIR folders) resides on the D: drive. If my OS pukes, or when I move from the WIN7 RC to Win7 Pro final, my IL-2 is safe.
