Bf110 vs Hurricane
#1

Is it just me? It seems that the 110c in game is faster than a hurricane, climbs and dives quicker, and turns tighter. It's like trying to catch an F-16 with a Gypsy Moth. Not to mention the dead-eye rear gunners who repeatedly wipe all my wingmen. Coupled with that massive battery in the nose and whole flights of hurricanes just fall from the sky, even with a 2 to 1 advantage. Not exactly accurate...

I think AI turns better because it uses the dual engines control to help on turning.
The humans only can do that with this solution:

JG how true. The Me 110 was faster than earlier hurricanes but turning was inferior. Good advice on attack positions. 8) Well the statement not very accurate  - well a lot under estimate the 110 if you attack in the wrong postions and a few RAF fighters were caught by the 110 not always the easy victim it is made out to be. It suffered heavy losses true in the BOB where it was totally unsuited to esort duty. By the way Adolf Galland didn't think much of the Hurricane in regards fighter vs fighter -quote - 'a nice plane to shoot down' but there again he was an Ace 109 pilot! Ones 'easy meat' isn't anothers necessary! Easy meat the 110 well even a Hurricane can be if caught unawares or careless. I personally like the Hurricane (and 110) and it did shoot down alot of Jerry but don't underestimate the 110. Be careful! :!: Cheers OZ. Smile

The Me110 should be able to out run you, but there's no way that it'll outturn you. The Hurri was even more maneuverable than the Spit, so the 110 outturning the Hurri is impossible.

When the day is over, it's all about who the pilot is, not so much what plane you're flying.
I can take a 110 and sometimes out turn Hurricanes, it just depends on how experienced the pilot is.

One manuver that works exceptionally welll against the Hurri with a 110 is the 'Pancake Flip'.
Get one on your 6oc, get fast to where you're out running him, pull into a near vertical climb.
At the top, just before you're ready to stall, chop the power to 0%.

The plane will flip straight down giving you the opportunity to blast him in the face with all those 20mm guns and he will be stalled out.

Though I fly through the valley of death, I will fear no evil.....
For I am the meanest SOB in the valley!

Only at lower speeds. Wink

Here is a nice read regarding the "myth" surrounding the 110 and BoB. Being that the 110 is my favorite a/c I find this topic very intersting to read and I agree 100% with why the 110 was regarded as a failure during the battle.

Do the Hartmann!
Approach from below and behind, then climb up aiming for one of the engines.
8x .303's blast like a pumpgun and will surely cause considerable damage.

If he's behind you at low altitudes, try cutting the throttle and turn tight, that'll shake 'em.
Practice this before going into combat against AI! Remember that your stall speed is much lower than his!

If he's behind you at higher altitudes, roll on your back and dive out (inverted Immelmann).
110's a slow manouvering AC, once you completed your manouver, you might want to try get in a good
position, using a horizontal turn. Then either spray him while he shoots past (deflection!), or get back
at his low six.

Thanks for the input. No, I don't just sit on their 6 unless that's my only option (and against a plane that can outrun me, it happens a bit). Diving from 3 or 9 o'clock and aiming for the glass house implies I'm above them; in the last 2 missions and the QMB I just flew to test the advice received the 110 started at the same altitude or higher. Trying to come up below and behind doesn't work against AI as for some reason the gunner starts shooting at 800m+ and the pilot reacts to me at 500m... he just climbs away. I let him come close behind (the only way I can get him to come within 500m of me is to let him be on my 6 and above me) and to snap roll at the last second and try to guess which way he'll turn. If that 'works' I see him climbing away no closer than 350m away and at full deflection. As to turning circle, the problem may well be that the AI 110 uses flaps to increase the turn (I can see them down) and still has a speed advantage, whereas I'm flat out so not turning at my best. As to my 'not very accurate' comment it mainly related to turns, but if the 110 was so good, why are there so many reports from the BoB of 110's forming defensive circles at the mere sight of spits and hurricanes?

It was a tactic of the 110s at the time, meant to be as much for offensive purposes as defensive. Read my above post and follow the link. Wink
