***NEW*** Tunisia Map (Version 1.1) Beta
#1

NEW VERSION:

Well, reworked all this map again, added airfields and thanks to Viking, got some very nice textures for this. So, enjoy.

[Image: 3004201040804.jpg]

This was made for the "Run for Tunis" Campaign and maybe the last stages of the Tunisian Campaign. Kairouan is not added yet and is not very usefull since it was used most for the Kasserine (not present) battle.

Wow, that one is so old ... I must have made it when I just figured out how to make a map flyable ...

It might be better to just start on a new version and then copy/paste the objects or airfields ...

Perfect would be to have one for all the Tunis area including Neffatia in the South , Youk Les Bains in the East and Bizerte and some kilometers of Mediterranean sea for the north and a tip of Sicily to the North East. It is quite big. All references are in the INFO.zip.

You can copy and paste from another map?! Confusedhock:

Sure you can ... but it's best to have the 1gig Modified .exe Mod installed first.

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,2475.0.html

With this mod installed in your map-making version, you will be able to open virtually any map at all, no matter how large the actors.static file is. Without this mod, you can usually only open actors to around 500k size. With the mod i have been able to open all actors, even those 5mb in size or more.

Once installed or not, in any case, you can load a map in map maker, select a group of objects using the key and left-mouse button, use the standard +C command to copy. Then you can load another map and with +V you can paste the copied objects in one go. It's a piece of cake. And by golly does it ever save a lot of time ...

And another reason to install the 1Gig mod - without this mod, your memory can become overworked/overloaded or whatever the term is and cause the map-maker to crash, especially if you copy too many objects at once.

Also, if you go back and forth between maps several times, without the 1gig Mod the map-maker will also become overworked and it will crash after a few maps are loaded.

A tip - whenever you copy and paste and the pasted objects are placed as you wish them to be - save the map, then go and copy the new actors file into your map file. If you don't save the newly created actors, then you will loose all changes when you go to another map to copy some more objects ...

It's all obvious I suppose, but the first time you try this out it does pay off to state the obvious anyway, in order to stave off head-scratching and searching afterwards ... the first time i try out new procedures I sometimes tend to get a bit nervous and jittery and make silly mistakes ...

Is there a way to rotate these objects to different angles or is it just strickly copy and paste into the same orientation as there origanals?

You can, but result is not very good. Best way is to cpy/paste and then rotate 180 degrees. Try it!

You can rotate objects either individually or as a group in total. To do this by increments use the numeric keypad.

1 = left 33 degrees (or thereabouts0
4 = left 16 degrees ...
7 = left 7 .....
etc etc

In the second pull down menu in your map-maker there is an option 'rotate objects'

If this is clicked 'on' then you can rotate whole groups of selected objects and keep them in the same relation to each other while they are rotated. For instance, with 'rotate objects' turned on, you can rotate an airfield in it's entirety, without each object moving around its own individual axis. This way, all groundplates and runway plates will remain nicely aligned in a straight line.

If you turn the option off, then each object will rotate around its own axis and totally mess up a runway, or a wall or whatever alignment. Actually I cannot think of any reason to keep this option turned off.

Also when rotating, take care that no single, individual object is selected. To unselect a single object, use right click with mouse and select 'deselect' option.

This is important, because even when whole groups of objects are selected (with alt+mouse drag) you can still select individual objects which will be rotated as a priority over the whole group selection.

Sounds complicated perhaps, but just try it out a few times ...

Well i never knew that,,,, thanks guys... after all this time painstakingly building towns, cities and instalations one at a time i coud have just copied and pasted whole sections! this will save alot of time, a very usefull bit of info!

I like this Tunisia map and think it needs just a bit of time and effort on it and it could be a very nice map, more of the med sea could be added quite easily to it to enlarge the area

Please go ahead and do whatever you wish to the map, especially in populating villages/towns and such ...

I'm also not sure which version you have of the Tunisia map, since I know I did some reworking of the FMB maps and also of map_T and map_h (if I'm not mistaken). I can send these to you if you wish, and ideally the textures should be updated to 1024 textures as well ...

Could it be possible to have an overview of the complete map? Would Pantaleria included?
Cheers
