Andalucia SCW Map - ReTextured in 1024
#1

Here is a link to a totally retextured and remapped version of Andalucia. The terrain map has been redone from scratch and new textures made and used in the map. Objects have remained in place though, so existing missions and campaigns will not be affected.

There are new and separate map_T and FMB maps and load.ini files which will not overwrite your old existing versions. So you may safely overwrite files if asked. Though as usual, it is best to make backups first, just in case ...

Here are some screenshots, with new FMB map, the snows of the Sierra Nevada, the plains of Andalucia, the olive orchards of Jaen, marshy coastal areas and the terrain in general ...

The download comes in a zipfile. If you unzip the zip you will get a directory called 'MODS'.

The simple manner to install this is the following:

copy this folder with good ol' crtl+c ...
now go to your game root folder. it will already contain a folder called 'MODS', so what you do is, paste (crtl+v) the unzipped 'MODS' folder here.
your pc will ask if you wish to overwrite a number of files.
you may normally safely say yes, especially if this is your first install of Andalucia, since you will only be overwriting directory structures, not files themselves
and even should you already have the map installed from a previous version, you may still safely answer yes to overwriting (though make a backup of the overwritten files first if you are unsure)

there is a txt file included which is called 'add to all.ini.txt' or something like that. Open it up and copy the line it says to your all.ini file
Your all.ini file is located here:
...MODS/mapmods/maps/all.ini

This should be it ...

They were a surprise for me too ... they came about by accident when making shallow water around the coastline ... I got annoyed and lost patience and started fooling around and somehow ended up with this. Luckily it's not hard to make. For once I remembered what I did ... ha ha.

I think it's similar to your Palau repaint on the shallow water lagoons ... but made sure that the white dots were whiter along the coastline, then applied the toolbox utility to make map_c and then did not use 'align coast' ... made it on a layered my_mapc so that it was easier to vary the shades of white along the coast ...

I think I found the culprit for this very odd glitch/occurrence/fault:

I recently bought a fantastic seamless texture making software program and i ran several of the Andalucia textures through it for the new map version. I didn't notice, but checking now I noticed now it automatically coverts tga files from 1mb in size to 3mb sized files, or in other words from 256 colors to 16million colors ... and for some reason that created problems around the map edges ... (it happened to me as well when i specifically tried it out).

I now reduced the colors of the textures back to 256 colors/1 mb and I've been flying around Ceuta/Gibraltar and Guadix in several missions without any odd visual anomalies ...

So I hope that was the reason ...

I'll post the correct textures along with a flattened airfield map in a while - say tomorrow - but you can always change the textures themselves if you wish. Just find any 3mb sized textures in the Andalucia_2 texture folder and reduce them to 256 colors ... not sure how to do it in GIMP though ... but they should be uncompressed and 8 bit ...

I don't know how come but even flying around is not possible. The game freezes at 100% and the loading screen turns blueish (luckily n

Desert houses high up on Sierra Nevada and you really need to edit your NASA snow textures.

The edited snow texture will be included with the new textures ...

The Egypt houses were actually intended to be in the Sierra Nevada ... maybe a bit lower, but even so. They are supposed to approximate the Moorish style houses that are still in the Alpujarras region of these mountains, on the southern slopes. Of course Egypt houses are not Moorish, but then again the map is full of west and central European buildings as well ... so ... make do with what there is I guess ...

As for being in the snow ... well: herder's huts, mountain refuge, ski station ... ha ha ...

Here's a shot (summer) of an Alpujarras village ... by the way, some of the tastiest jamon serrano comes from here, from villages like Trevelez - step into a shop with hundreds of cured hams hanging about and you won't be able to resist ...
