Convert .tga to .tif or jpeg
#1

Hi all:

A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, I dl'd an app that let me convert the .tga files in the game into jpeg or .tif format then back again. Can anyone remember this and point me in the right direction?

Thanks for the help in advance.

There are several applications that will do this. I use Paint.NET, which is nice and flexible - it is free, and quite useful for image editing etc too. At a pinch you could even use it for skinning, though Gimp does this better.

You mean the Il-2 TGAs? They are special ones, not just plain TGAs. Check the modding tools section.

With this little tool your ingame .tga's get converted to .jpg's. Besides that you can make more than the max. of 20 and it won't overwrite your previous made screenshots by the way.

Thanks all for your prompt replies.

Lego & Planemad: I already have the utility that changes the screenshots to jpegs.

KG64_Cnopicilin: Tools section? I checked through a ton of stuff and the only tool I found was the one referred to earlier by Verhängnis - IrfanView. I dl'd this and tried to run the stubborn .tga through it but it wouldn't read it; it gave me a sign to check properties/language in a plugin.

The .tga I'm having problems with is the one in rootfolder>Mods>ShipPack>3do>Ships>Tranport4>damage1o.tga. This has an odd size of 1,026 KB. The others that I can open in an old version of PhotoShop 6 are 1,025 KB or 769 KB. I wanted to open this file to see if I needed to paint it to coincide with the paint job I did on the other skins.

If I can't open this file it's no real big deal as I have most of what I want but if there's a detail I'm missing - like the damaged ship suddenly looking different to the undamaged one - then I'd like to be able to fix it.

Thanks again for all your help

Great days all.

OK, found the program, use this to convert the IL-2 TGAs. I will PM DM to reupload it to the tools section.

I just press Print Screen button on keyboard and then paste it into Paint.net or whatever and save as any type I want.

Sorry I only just read his reply.

You need this:
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1110.0.html

Which is what I think DM posted.

The programs are different in appearance, maybe the one DM posted is an updated one?

Both programs will convert unreadable/invisible .tga's into visible ones ready to edit. I used to work with Dr. Jones .tga converter but the one from SAS1946 is much more userfriendly. Just select your .tga, click "View" and next "SaveTGA". That's it.
