New Installs and porked graphics
#1

Hello, gentlemen..

I went through a reinstallation dance: I had 2 versions of HSFX4.11 (highly modded) on my E: drive, along with my Windows XP files (not too clever).
I saved the installs, uninstalled IL-2 1946 via DVD (literally uninstalling an empty folder).

Then I made a new install, patched to 4.08 and later to 4.09, each time restarting PC between install steps.
Finally I installed UP 2.1 and modded it with Histomod V.3..
THEN I took the UP 2.1 Histomod install, my 2nd HSFX4.11 install and placed them on my C: Drive, deleted all installs on my E: drive except the clean Il-2 1946 4.09 version as backup and my biggest IL-2 1946 HSFX4.11 version.
I renamed all folders so that only one active on my C: drive was named "Ubisoft"/IL-2 1946".

I defragged the whole HD and send a connective icon for my new UP 2.1 install to my desktop.
Sorry, I know this is a PITA of a screwed explanation of what I did. Basically, I backuped all my IL-2 folders and made a new UP 2.1 installation, then moved my current favourite installs to my C: drive, where no Windows files reside.

I didn't install DX9.0C again BTW..

My prob: Now I have-in all installs and independent of hardrives-a blurry anisotropic flickering or net texture blurr effect on my water, where the light/sun is displayed-this is new.
Also landscape such as the coastline in the default Pacific Islands map showed that effect. Seems also related to rendering distance. Config.ini setings all identical, no changes. Setup, mapping etc..=identical.
My GFX settings for my Ati HD5770 haven't changed, nor did my driver.

I recall this was a known issue with my earlier rig when uninstalling and reinstalling IL-2.
Any tips...please?

This shot cannot capture the effect well, it's best seen in motion: Cry

Thank you.. ..I know I tend to have weird probs. :wink: :oops:

Need to see your Conf.ini

But best guess is that you have NV effects enabled in the conf.ini and you're not running an Nvidia card.

Edit:{HVY-E}Jinxx, I'd say you are correct!? Weird, will check again. Only strange thing is all that über- anisotropic blurr occured only after my new installs were made. Will change that setting and see if it changes. I marked the setting I think you ment, {HVY-E}Jinxx. Thanks a lot for helping!
Okey, here it is, all the same as before, nothing changed: (Yes, Ati HD 5770, setup maxxed as per Fireskulls thread):

MY guess before I read the last post: Something weird with registry entries whenever IL-2 is uninstalled an reinstalled. I made a new clean HSFX4.11 install to verify-and anisotropic filtering doesn't seem to work at all, TexMipFilter=3 makes no difference.

I had a last plan b:
Check some of my alternative il2_core.dll and il2_corep4.dll files.
If that fails as well, uninstall IL-2 after backing up any install. Complete removal of all registry strings.

Registry keyset ATM:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Game Service Games
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Game Service Games\PF_COOPERATIVE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Game Service Games\PF_DOGFIGHT
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\1.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Mod
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Mod\Versions Installed

..the 2nd Ubisoft list in that reg is is Lomac (kept for fun reasons lol!).

I checked my dxdiag DX9.0C is installed.

Okey, will make a test and report. Thanks anyone bothering to read all that stuff, I know it bores.

Okey, changed TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1 to TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=0 --no difference.
Maybe the whole NV column needs to be set to 0 for me.
River edges, coastlines and forest edges as usual got the hardest hit from flickering. :wink: Arg!

There's a total of 3..

TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1 Change to 0
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1 Change to 0
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1 Change to 0

Next thing to check is your Catalyst settings. As I'm not the biggest fan of ATI, I'll do my best to help, but you may want to check with other users of those cards.

{HVY-E}Jinxx, thanks a lot!
I will change those 3 values.
Regarding my HD 5770, I optimized my settings for IL-2 1946 and had the best graphics ever seen in my IL-2s..
The weird thing here is, as mentioned in my 1st post, the fact that those anisotropic effects are new with my exact same game and GFX setings after de-installing IL-2 and applying another, 3rd version of IL-2 1946.
Hard to verify, but it is a known issue for me when uninstalling and reinstalling IL-2 versions.

I will now test your corrections and also try out a set of new il2_core.dII and il2_core4p.dIIs.

If all that fails, I will uninstall again, remove all registry settings and reinstall.

Will post results..

Cheers

To avoid problems like this in the future...

Backup your Conf.ini file and User folder before you uninstall/reinstall.
After you're done installing, just copy those back. Everything will be as it was as far as graphics settings and control settings are concerned.

Well: I backuped EVERYTHING including my conf.ini before uninstalling, the entire game folders (3 versions).
I applied the changes you named, thanks again..
But still nojoy. GFX changes persist. I had only installed a 4th version incl. UP 2.1 and histomod, then switched installs by renaming folders.
I made sure the conf.ini was no factor by using various versions that previously worked.
I believe it is a registry/IL-2 deinstalltion to reinstallation issue.
I always had this issue when uninstalling and reinstalling IL-2, I know it sounds illogical, but I do remember. Maybe XP SP2 thing with regs and IL-2.

I now made sure my backup HSFX installs are safe and renamed, uninstalled my last testversion with the DVD uninstaller,
deleted ALL IL-2 registry keys, then uninstalled LOMAC (also Ubisoft folder and registry entry).
Next I will uninstall my Ati package inlcuding registry strings, reinstall my Ati driver, reinstall IL-2 1946 and patch up to HSFX4.11, restart bewteen every step and defrag 3-4 times. Then I'll see how my backup will look ingame.

Cannot think of any other steps to do, at least I know my backups have the exact same settings they always had.

Problem might be I put out the last game folder "IL-2 1946" out of the target Ubisoft folder before uninstalling, thus probably keeping an additional registry key while uninstalling an empty folder as per SAS advice for multiple installs(?).

Anyway, s**t happens. :o

Cheerio and thanks again.

Tom,

It is good that you are thorough. I am too.

Sometimes even thorough people miss the obvious.

Did you do the following?

1) Undo the READ-Only status of the conf.ini file before making changes to anything graphics related.

2) Make sure that the setup.exe file is set to...

Texture mipmap filter: Anisotropic and Texture Compression: None. Be sure that your graphics control panel has Force mipmaps: None, or something similar.

It is also important to use Clip Hint (check).

Follow the setup maximum configuration as you have already used, found on this webpage, for the IL-2 Setup:
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=22314&start=30

(Note to readers: Only high powered graphic cards will run the above highest graphics settings as shown in my IL-2 configuration guide.)

3) Do a quick check of your conf.ini file to be sure that your configuration has maximum settings.

4) After all graphics related settings are applied, reapply READ-Only to the conf.ini file and restart. Normally, restarting your system is not necessary, but I recommend it for you in this case.

Fireskull: Thanks for all your tips! I think I followed all guides in my initial HSFX4.11 setting up process except the switch to "read only". Will try this as well!
The main problem is the following-and I think I am not hallucinating..every time I uninstall and/or reinstall IL-2 1946 completely, my anisotropic filtering is less effective-regardless of backups and setups.
This is really weird, but I think I saw it over several years..and then also in other sims.
I have no idea if IL-2 writes some graphics entry into some unkown (to me) Windows files and if the uninstall process affects anything-but that is what my experience indicates.

Thanks for taking time to read this and replying, gents! Not taken for granted.

Cheers!
