[MOD] NEW MIDEAST MAP V1.0

Hello everybody,

I'm working on a new map from Mideast (I've got the idea of developing a campaign for 1948's Israel independence war).
The main features are already created but it's a big map and there's still a lot to do (mainly populating the more distant cities like Damascus, or Beirut).

If someone can take a look to it and play a little with the map I'd like to have some feedback about it.

I've tried to stick as near as possible of Mideast layout by 1948, and to make the map and the new scenery buildings as "light" as possible (static.ini is only 271k).
The map was developed on IL2 4.09 with UP 2.01 and used some buildings from Egypt's MOD by dlv.

Hello nounette, first of all thank you very much for the map. This must be one of the most wanted for Il-2.

There are problems however, namely getting it loaded. In the map load.ini you have various textures listed as JPG, they need to be changed to .tga.

Some of your textures are also JPG so need changing to .tga.

Once that little drama is sorted out and the map finally loads the Middle East unfolds beneath us. 8)

My trial was conducted in 410 modded, will now add it to my UP installation.

HI! And welcome to mapbuilders fascinating world!!
I downloaded your map. It has some errors:
1.You have accidently named some of the texturefiles to.jpg instead of .tga.
2. Don't include whole all.ini file to package, since it will replace players all.ini.
Just write directions and people can add necessary lines to all.ini
I installed your map and it loaded and it looks absolutely beatifull!!!
Only thing is that you have add some new objects and i can't save missions.
You need to add ONLY your new objects to files/3DO and please, don't inclede your own static.ini file. It will mess other users static.ini, if they replace it with yours!
Just add lines for your new objects and users can copy/paste them to static.ini
Also, include installation directions for map, objects and texturefiles.
It will make our lifes easier!!
I have planned to make a Middle-East my self, but i'm really happy that someone else is finally doing it.
I'm sure that this will be a great map. I love the citytextures! And the size of the map.
Needed and waited map indeed!!
I'm not really good what comes to add new objects to game, but i'm sure that we have lot's of talent here to help you, if you need help.
Can't wait to see this map when it is ready!!

I got it working... I needed to copy new 3DO files to my MODS/ 00_Objects (one of the boomers_packs folders) and then i copy/pasted Mideast part of static.ini to my MODS/STD /....Static.ini...
A bit compicated, but i got it working.
This map lood really promising!!!! You have modelled AL Aqsra too.
Now that we have new jets 1956 pack, this will be a great addition.

PS: I have stayed in Jerusalem's Old Town as a phographer. Near Jaffa Gate, Hotel New Imperial. I rented a room there..... My favourite city. Weirder than New York. And that says a lot to me..
People who lived there were kinda freaks. Janitor was rewriting bible... There was an old Lady who was playing card with her self and was cheating... She told that her husband was a CIA member.
Lot's of priests and hippies, about 2-3 Jesus incaranations... Amazing place.
And some journalists too. We did have cool parties.
I'm not sure, but i think that it was at Armenian quarter....
I also rented a room for a whilefrom arabic lwoman, but i couldn't stand the place,because there were a mosqs Minaret just outside my window.....

Hi everybody,
Thanks for your feedback.

Concerning the textures, the jpg are reused from other MODs. All new textures I've added are tga.

As requested, here are the instructions for installing the MOD :
- unpack all the files in a temporary folder with the structure
- move the all.ini and the static.ini to another place in your disk (your desktop for instance)
- copy the "files" folder as is to your "files" folder in the IL2 directory
- open the all.ini file provided in the mod and look for the line begining with Mideast. Copy that line to your all.ini
- open the static.ini file provided in the mod and copy the whole mideast block to your static.ini :

That should do it (remember that you have also to download the Egypt pack)

For the next release I will replace all jpg images by tga, change all.ini and static.ini to contain only mideast lines and make a little installation guide.
I will also correct some bugs I've found recently and take into account your remarks, so keep giving me your feedback.

Can someone do asimple install that would work for 4.09 or 4.10 with a line to simply drop into all.ini file & post it? That would be great to have an easy fool proof install.

They are tga files. They are just named to jpges for some reason.
All you need to do is reaname .***.jpegs to.tga

Hello everybody,

Following your first feedbacks, you'll find version 1.01 of MIDEAST MAP at http://www.gamefront.com/files/20132647/...+v1.01.rar

I've included the following updates in the release:

1) Created installing pack and instructions
2) Replaced jpg files by tga ones
3) Updated some layout textures and heights
4) Redesigned Amman in order to recreate a more realistic layout and added the Raghadan Royal Palace
5) Populated Petah Tikva

I'm looking forward for your feedback ,

I've been installing all my maps into Mapmods folder in Mods folder...will this work the same way drop everything (3do,tex_ & maps)into either Mods/ Mapmods folder and Mods/mapmods/maps folder angd the correct ini files found here in Maps folder & Mods/STD? :wink:

There are a number of textures in the load.ini that I just cannot seem to find, no matter where I look, not in any standard folders either:

LowLand2 = land/summer/MTO_Lowland_2_Fields.tga,2

MidLand0 = land/summer/MTO_Desert_0.tga,2
MidLand1 = land/summer/MTO_Desert_1_Fields.tga
MidLand2 = land/summer/MTO_Desert_2.tga,2
MidLand3 = land/summer/dry2_v1_M42.tga

Mount0 = land/summer/MTO_Desert_4_Fields.tga,2
Mount1 = land/summer/mount_top2_M42.tga
Mount2 = land/summer/MTO_Dunes_Fields.tga
Mount3 = land/summer/MTO_Mount_Fields.tga,2

Wouldn't it be more consistent and simpler if all textures used in this map were simply placed in one single texture folder 'land/mideast' instead of counting on them being installed elsewhere?

Does anyone have these textures for upload?

@Dietz. Do you have Boomers_Pack installed? if you do, put new 3DO file to some of th 00_Objects folders and add static.ini lines to STD/----/static.ini
