Computer hanging uselessly after patch to 4.09. Help please!
#1

Hello all,

I've decided after years and years of CFS2 and 3 to see what IL-2 has finally become, so I got the International DVD version of 1946 (4.07m) which I installed and tested. Runs perfectly, nice sim, although sound is a bit awkward at times. Patched to 4.08m - runs perfectly, good FPS, graphics fine, no troubles.

Then patched to 4.09m, and the trouble begins. The sim runs nicely, good everything all round, but reaction time on pressing loading and quit buttons is slow. OK, I think, there's a bit more stuff in there. Doesn't matter much.

But back in Windows again, and my browsers (FF and IE) are so slow they effectively no longer run at all, my Windows programs are equally sluggish and practically unusable - Windows Navigator takes minutes to open a file it usually handles in a split second, for example; Notepad hangs on even tiny files; basically, nothing really works any more.

In order to uninstall, I have to start the computer again, and get things done without using IL-2 first! Or it's the same things again - everything hangs so badly it's useless.

Uninstalling solves the problem. Reinstalling and patching up to 4.09m, or using the 4.10 Megapack recreates the problem. I've used patches downloaded from numerous different sites so as to ensure that I get one that is not corrupt, and uninstalled/reinstalled several times to no avail.

Does anybody have any suggestions? As I'm a Mediterranean War freak, I really would like to run 4.09 with the new Med maps...

Running Windows XP SP3, P4 2.8c, Nvidia 7600GS and 1.5GB RAM. Should be enough... Thanks!

I'm not really a computer guru but I think I've spotted a problem

RAM - or the lack of it

My old computer which had a Pentium 4, Nvidia 6200 had about 2gigs of RAM on Windows XP SP3. Like I said, I'm not entirely sure but I think this could be you problem now that you have downloaded all those patches. It may also be a porblem with your hard drive not being large enough. Please can you post specs on hard drive. When hard drives fill to thier maximum the whole computer and graphics tend to get slow, dont know why but the just do.

Hope this was helpful, and I'm willing your computer to make a speedy recovery

Hope you like

Thanks, both - what Adam says makes sense, but that turned out not to be the problem - Jinxx got it. I had to update my drivers - which were not THAt out of date that I'd have even thought of it. But you were spot on, and it's now running nicely. So thank you!

Now then, what comes next...? Big Grin

Also, you should after finishing all installations, take a look at the Sticky Topics by Administrator {HVY-E}Jinxx in the IL-2 Technical Help and PC Technical Help forums near the top of the lists there.

Since you are interested in Mediterranean combat, you will be glad to know that there are many things for that, including the nice map and map textures by redko.
