Uzin,
Yes! This is a great patriotic song about the victory of The Motherland in World War Two, which was called "The Great Patriotic War" ( Великой Отечественной войны in Russian). Of all the great music in Russia's rich history and the great patriotic music of both Imperial Russia and also The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, this is one of the best and most popular. It was pure and free from gloating, with the expression of the honor and glory of fighting a noble cause and winning the war. No politics were in the song but only great patriotism.

It is called "Victory Day" ( День победы ), celebrating the triumph of comrades. This and "Time Forward" ( Время вперед ) are among my favorite Soviet patriotic songs.

In case anybody is wondering: 1) I like these for cultural and historical reasons. 2) This is not a political statement - no. 3) I know some Russian and many of my ancestors were Volga River Germans, I have a sentiment about these major subjects for The Motherland. That's all.

A friend of mine who knew Russian was teaching me these and other patriotic songs in Russian just a few years ago. He died about 1 and a half years ago.

This day must be the anniversary of Victory Day for the Soviets over Germany. Though it still sickens me to see the picture of the Red flag in Berlin ( Anybody in the know understands my code language ), because I am German, I am a mature man who can put aside things like that to appreciate the human spirit here.

Thank you, Uzin, that really brought a big smile and joy to me!
