Hello, kevin, I just signed in, I followed your beginners tutorial, but making other location.
And everything is ok, except I can't now load map in FMB (first reason is that there is no HB_pacificisland file, because link is broken, so I wasnt able to have files from that directory)
I made few shots by replacing existing midway map with my files, and was able to load it, and it works good.
I'm using UltraPack 2, is there any way to load something so my map can be visible as it is in FMB.
Now I want to continue with textures and other, but dont know how to load in FMB
Thanks in advance

kevinp

Hi propuh
I will try to help but I am not sure what the problem is.

If I understand correctly, you can load your map in the FMB of Ultrapack 2 only if you put it into the folder of another map. I assume you wrote the name of your map in the all.ini file but it doesn't load when you click on it in the FMB map list. The only reason I can think why it wont load is because of a spelling mistake in your all.ini text.

propuh

Hello, glad you answered Smile
English is not my language, so apologize for mistakes, but will try to explain:
In your tutorial I have, there are links for several tools and files, and I downloaded it all except "HB_pacificIslands", because link is broken. As I could see in pictures when extracted it makes folder MODs and subfolders, so I tried to to make it manually and create all.ini file. But FBM don't see my map.
Then I tried to put folder with files I made in default maps folder and add line with my map in all.ini file, but then game crashes on 70% of loading screen.
And only way to load it is to put my files in another map folder (in my case "Midway", which has only one file, which I replaced.)
So solution for this is to send me link for HB_pacific, or to explain me how to add my map to main maps folder, so I can continue with using tutorial

Here is the link to the Pacific Islands map -
http://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/...125&t=8318

When you write the text in the all.ini file make sure there is a space between the two map names, for example "Manam Manam/load.ini" not "ManamManam/load.ini". If there is no space the game crashes at 70%.

Dear Kevin

I've followed your tutorial - which is great. My Manam map came out fine - and I'm now trying an original map.

As it happens, I've recently encountered one IL2 problem which is making my task difficult.
my Il2 screen [in either map-building version or regular game] suddenly goes very bright - so that the 2D map in FMB is almost invisible.
This doesnt stop me completing any task in Map builder- but its very tiresome.
Have you any advice on how to solve this problem?

Thanks for your wonderful tutorial. Hopefully my new map will one day get on to this forum.
I am a geography nut - so studying topology & geology of a region, to make a map, is just as much fun as flying on it!

yours
felix the fat.

ps and thanks to Oleg, of course.

I've never encountered this problem before. It maybe best to ask in the IL2 Technical Help section.

KevinP said: I've never encountered this problem before. It maybe best to ask in the IL2 Technical Help section.

OK -thanks for the suggestion.

but maybe another angle may help:
another odd thing about this map I'm making: when flying on it in FMB, the aircraft have no shadows!
[but they do on all the other maps ]

with thanks
Felix

felix_the_fat

just to refine my question above, concerning "no shadows"
the details are quite weird:
I am making a new map which is 390x340km [1:1].
The map is only partly done, but when I fly on it in FMB:
If I go into FMB and fly on this map first, there are no aircraft shadows, but otherwise its all OK.
But: if I open this map after I have flown on any other map, there ARE aircraft shadows, but now there are also those well-known little groups of grey spikes scattered about.

any advice?

kevinp

I also sometimes get this effect on my maps, but it goes away when I reload. I've no idea what causes it, maybe my computer is just getting too old. I've never had any grey spikes though.

Hello, I'm new to the map building and I've followed your tutorial that I find great.

I'm running IL2 with UP2O1 and directories are not exactly the same that in the tutorial (e.g. I don't have a mods folder but a jgsmemods).
I've managed to edit the graphic maps and to load them on the mission builder.

However, when I try to save the inserted objects I've got the following error :
actors save to 'maps/manama/actors.static' failed : maps/manama/actors.static (The system cannot find the path specified)
and the same thing for labels.txt, map_t.tga

I've tested to put the manama folder in different places (Files\maps, mods\mapmods, jsgmemods\mapmods, jsgmemods\maps, mods\maps) but I've got always the same problem.

I also have a problem viewing textures in the map building option (but it works in standard game)

Thanks,
N

nounette

For information, I've copied an actors.static and a texts.txt files from other map and I'm able to see the textures, to create missions and to play them in standard game mode. So, it seems to be only a matter of "map building mode" config.

I did not install a complete new copy of IL2 for map building. I've just added the lines to the conf.ini and created two batchs that copy the right bldconf.ini before running il2fb

nounette

Ok, I've found the information by myself in another topic (Map Builder Trick with JSGME.exe) http://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/...70&t=28901

Quote:Basically, to save your work, you should have in your game folder a folder named : Maps and in this folder, other folders with EXACTLY the same names than your maps folders in your mods/mapmods/maps/..
So, the work you do will be saved in this [your game]/Maps/[your map]/... but only the files which are updated in your work.
In order to to have the changes taken in account, you'll have to move files from
[your game]/Maps/[your map]/...
to:
[your game]/MODS/Mapmods/Maps/[your map]/...

Now everything works

I am not an expert on UP201 so I am glad you sorted that out without my help.

nounette

Hi Kevin,

In fact I've managed to save the files but I've still got a problem with textures (I've seen in several forums that other people had the same problem but I've never seen the solution explained).

In standard game I manage to see correctly the textures (when flying and when editing a mission with FMB) but in map building mode I only get a white squre over a black background when I zoom (this means that I correctly see the maps but not the textures when I zoom enough).

When I activate the debugger and zoom up to the texture level I've got the following error:

WARNING: Camera: unexpected 'ActivateWCM'
WARNING: preRender: Exception!
WARNING: cRender0: Exception!

I think that this is only a problem with the placement of the textures but I've tried to put them in different directories and I've got always the same error (where do you put your textures when editing maps?).

I've also tried to make a new fresh installation only for map building but if I only install IL2 without UP I'm not able to find the all.ini to include my map in. If I install UP I've got exactly the same error (If I go for a new installation without UP, how do I add my map for edition?).

Thanks

N

Hi nounette

I can't help with your texture problem, I've never encountered it. I would suggest you ask for help in the IL2 Technical Help section.

When editing maps I always put my textures in a separate folder in the "_Tex" folder

If you need an "all.ini" file, you can download one for IL2 version 409b1m from here -
