Hi krychla0

Yes, you can build new maps from the old ones, but you don't need to make them from ed-m01.

You can make Mymap_c from map_c.tga & map_c.tga_table.

Maybe you have Map_c Toolbox already, but if not, download from here -
(The link is inoperative)

Then put map_c.tga & map_c.tga_table into the same folder. Run Map_c Toolbox & create the original
Mymap_c. It's easy, the only work you have to do is type in the name Mymap_c.

I am now a seasoned map maker via your tutorial.

All the maps I make all load up perfectly. I have my own little system that I use for map size measurements.

I also use RedWolf,s map c tool instead of the other version.

I recently converted a new static sea The Black Sea in to a workable sea for someone else's project.

I enjoy Microdem a lot and it has become an enjoyable pass time or me.

I read with interest the post from Mission Bug about texturing. I have tried other techniques but after reading about the technique you described using Microdem I feel that this method could just be what I am looking for.

Would there be any small chance to list a set of simple instructions like your map tutorial to cover this method

No need to worry about pictures or anything I enjoy and know my way around Microdem.

I've made a test map region in 200 scale as suggested in misson Bugs post.

I have not gone any further with it I saved the image after redrawing the map in 200 pixal size.

Hi Kirby

I can make a small tutorial on Texturing with Microdem, but give me a day or two to remind myself how to do it.

Cheers
Kevin

That would be fantastic Smile

I read ClockWatcher's tutorial today but it is not as simplified as your tutorials are. The texturing method was not clear but the road method was clear.

By the way I've made the majority of the Japanese China Plan.

Chinese Coast areas; HongKong, Shanghai and Nanking, North Coastal areas below Korea and above Korea in 75 pixals scale.

Chinese inland areas; I-Chang and Hankow, and Kunming (Yunnan) in 100 scale.

Working on a load.ini with all the Chinese maps using sourced textures from this site.

Even if it is around next week end Kevin, that would be great for the Microdem texturing tutorial.

Your instructions are very easy to follow I have that file you mention in Mission Bugs post in Microdem.

My main interest would be when during the Microdem process you use that file.

I have worked my way to page 28 without any trouble but now its time to install Gimp version 2.2.17 and it just will not install. I have tried everything, Google had ideas but none of them worked. I am running Vista Ultimate and do not have access to WinXP. I have suceeded in getting Gimp version 2.26.2 up and running but nothing relates to this tutorial.
Is there anyone that has figured out how to install Gimp 2.2.17 on Vista?

Harold

Bombsaway

Jay, I have vista home premium and gimp 2.6 installed on mine ok. Have you looked up that version?

Jaymom

I tried that one Bomb's (v2.6.7) and got a bunch of "can't find's" so I went to Google and nothing I found cured the problem. If I dont use the same version as kevinp the tutorial doesnt make sense. I'm going to keep pluggin along and see if I cant find a way to get kevinp's version to work. Thanks for the info Bombs.

Well i finally broke down and pulled out my old Toshiba laptop that has WinXP Pro on it. I forgot I even had it. lol

I installed Gimp 2.2.17 without any trouble what so ever. Now I've got to transfer a copy of IL-2 along with everything else needed and then start my map all over again. It's worth it though.

Greetings KevinP!
I'm dying to try your map-making tutorials,
but each time I try to down load them and un"Zip" them,
I get the following error messages:

! Map building for beginners\Map building for beginners.pdf: The file "Map building for beginners\Map building for beginners.pdf" header is corrupt

! Map building for beginners\Textures for beginners.pdf: The file "Map building for beginners\Textures for beginners.pdf" header is corrupt

! Map building for beginners: The file "Map building for beginners" header is corrupt

Have you encountered this before?

Cheers, Black Angus

Hi black_Angus

I just downloaded the tutorial & it un-zipped OK. You can try downloading from the link below. If it still doesn't work then I think the problem must be with your computer or internet connection.

Can you send me your map? I just need -
map_c.tga
map_c.tga_table
Mymap_c.tga

kevinp

Hi Wild Bill

I have found the problem. map_c.tga has been compressed by accident. I don't think there is anything wrong with map_c.tga_table.

Open map_c.tga with Gimp & select Save As (not Save). Then you will be able to turn off RLE compression
