PapaG39, do not bother to work on mouthing off, if you have survived 68 years doing it you have earned the right to continue.
I jsut wanted to add a post here to confirm that Forager's method works perfectly well. I was able to mod the game with no problems following this procedure. I didn't even bother backing up my game folder (it was going to take too long, and I decided I didn't have enough saved to worry so much about re-installing if it didn't work).
Just for the sake of answering other's questions, I'll just add that I started with an already patched 4.08 version of the 1946 DVD install. I lost none of my careers or missions after the mod process, and I went through all three steps.
I don't mean this as any disrespect to the fine work that vpmedia did (I read through all of his install advice, and would have followed it if Forager's posts hadn't come along), but I think this deserved to either be stickied, or somehow merged with vpmedia's beginner's install thread.
Thanks again, Forager. (by the way, does your choice of names have anything to do with an interest in the Marianas campaign?)
do not forget to be patient
Forager, I suggest you edit your original post (part 1) to combine Parts 2 and 3 into one, just to help keep them from falling too far apart.
Again, I think this post should be stickied. It worked perfectly for me.
Thanks Dleg, for the support and GLAD IT WORKED FOR YA.
An excellent work yours Forager, comprehensive, invaluable and necessary
Many thanks mate
Hey Lejo, I rewrote it and moved it to the tech forum, hoping it would not disappear quite so soon.

If you have a working 4.08 with no mods you can start from it.
Just make sure all of your mods are going into the right 1946 install.
Thanks for checking back and the new install process is in 2 steps in the tech section.
I forgot to mention, when you try for a brand new install from the disc you need to uninstall the first installed version. If you have made copies and placed them somewhere else on your drive they can stay.
If the original install is modded, the modded files remain after the uninstall and will contaminate the new install so make sure to delete them too.
When you get a working install you may consider dumping some of the other ones and make a copy of the new one.
Thanks for letting me know the new link Forager.
I followed your steps over there and now I have wat I wanted: my modded V4.09b1m
You're welcome Lejo, glad it worked for you.
This deserves a BUMP in my opinion! I was having loads of issues and although I received a lot of great info from many members it was this full reinstall process that finally worked for me. I am fully enjoying these Mods and want to thank Forager for his help and this Install Process.
THANKS AGAIN Forager!
