A Thought on Drivable Vehicles
#16

Hmm, I was thinking about this whilst playing Theatre of War. It uses the Il-2 engine and the vehicles are beatifully modelled. It would be awesome to have those models in 1946! The guns recoil, the suspension works etc. Sweet.

Quote:cockpit? no modder would make a Cockpit?!? Damn if you get this to work I will HIRE and PAY someone to make the Cockpit (well not a cockpit technically)!

I think we are talking about 'fighting compartments' and 'cabs' And it would be *very* cool! Here's to it!

I don't know what Magot is going on about........

Hellzone made a Drivable tank with a firing gun. It still has the B25 Pit but that can be changed.

Have more faith, friend! I do! I would have never imagined people being able to change the way AI aircraft reacted to different scenarios, or make realistic-looking smoke/fire effects, etc. etc... All this stuff formerly thought to be "hard-coded" and thus, unmoddable. Somehow this does not seem out of our reach.

I know that if a modder so chooses to pick this project up, we will see great outcomes- and infinite more possibilities for our beloved sim. Perhaps then we can persuade you?

Would be nice to be able to run to your aircraft during a scramble. or walk around the airbase. or walk to the barracks after landing, or even find your way home on foot after bailout without getting killed by AI.

In ARMA I used to love getting shot down and having to radio for an actual human pilot to come and pick you up in a blackhawk, using coloured smoke for signals!

Perhaps we could have the possibility of picking up downed pilots in transport aircraft such as the Storch or Ju52? Ah, wishful thinking.....

For Over Olegs Fields itwould be superb if we could recreate McNamara's daring rescue of a downed airman by picking him up and having him latch onto the bracing wires only moments before being captured by Turkish horsemen! Mcnamara was awarded the VC for this act.

Great news! Thank you for your courage, Hawk! I wish you the best of luck and that the task is easier than expected (although isn't that the prayer of every modder? )

Well, you know what's weird:

There's this one massive online flight and tank simulator out there, can't remember its name exactly, where you can fly airplanes and drive tanks, in WWII and WWI! One day when I'm done with il2, i'll probably end up playing that.... But that's a long time in the future.....

IIRC, F22_RAPTOR-2006 was working with someone to make a driveable tank for the game. Don't know how far they got, though.

What you fellows are talking about sounds like a combination of IL2 and Red Orchestra and maybe using the Darkest Hour mod. As there you have all of the above mentioned vehicules and guns. You have there driveable jeeps, trucks, tanks and operational canons, also various infantry weapons like Panzerfaust or bazooka. So no real need to invent the wheel again.

I think maybe you're thinking of Battlefield 1942, or Operation Flashpoint. More first person shooter type games with simple and limited flight options.
