Nice, except the B-36, Ju-390, and IJN Yamato are for a campaign that I'm sure many people would enjoy, also, I "dearly want" people to stop wasting time and rescources on tiny variations of already in-game aircraft, every plane listed here (not by me) is either already in-game or has an almost identical variant. (with the exception of the G8N1 Renzan, that's preatty cool). But I can't seriously be the only one that'd ask for the B-36 and Ju-390, just about everyone in the alternative history business would probably kiss the spinning propellers of the thing to get it.
So... Do you make fun of everybody that requests an aircraft, just out of curiosity?
Oh, and Rodeschild, try looking through the planelist, we already have the Mustang and the P-40.
If it's not constructive in any way, then the "post reply" button is not for you. (That's going on the sig!)
Anyhow, I have gmax and fair 3d skills, I could probably make a Yamato/Musashi, it's much easier than making an aircraft, plus not nearly as complicated. I can export it to OBJ. Though my texturing ability ends with Windows Paint.
So the Spit XIV was a waste? The Coastal Command Mossie FB.VI was a waste? The 190A-3 was a waste? The 109D is a waste?
Some of us would like to fly aircraft which actually made it into the air and made some useful contribution to the war. They may all look the same to you, but there are critical differences between the different versions of any one type. I'd enjoy some postwar and experimental types too, but actual serving WWII aircraft seem a more appropriate priority in a WWII flight sim. '46 was an expansion, not the original game. Keep that in mind.
With a frist flight in 1946, the B-36 was mass produced, so it has as much right as the YP-80 to be there, and the Ju-390 probably has more right to be in than the He-111z. And alternative history or not, the Yamato/Musashi changed the world forever, clearly marking the point that the age of the dreadnaught/battleship was over, and the age of air power had begun. Not to mention you'd be crazy if you didn't want to give it a historical torpedo run, or shoot down the torpedo bombers, or escort them, etc.
I never meant that the plane variants were a waste, or even useless. It's just that it seems like it'd make more of a difference to make an entirely new aircraft than a variant of an already in-game one. It's like deciding inbetween the 109D and the Swordfish. The Germans have 109's and Bf110's for ground attack, but there is no GB Carrier-based torpedo bomber.
There is now.
In my opinion - and it's just that, my personal opinion - this should be the priority order for new AC (not including WWI as that's down to CK):
1 - Served in WWII. Mass produced. Saw extensive combat.
2 - Served in WWII. Mass produced. Saw some combat, but perhaps was replaced early on or arrived too late to really get into it.
3 - Served in WWII. Mass produced. Not a combat type or didn't see combat, but was present in significant numbers.
4 - Served pre- or postwar. Mass produced. Saw extensive combat.
5 - Served pre- or postwar. Mass produced. Saw some combat or was simply present in significant numbers.
6 - Served before, during, or after WWII. Not as commonly produced, but still of enough importance to warrant going into game (perhaps some of the 'milestone' types which flew, but were never in widespread use).
7 - Paper fantasy-planes which never flew in their intended configuration (big difference between glider models and powered flight).
Of course, it's up to the modders themselves what AC they create (I for one am working on an Ar240, both to familiarise myself with modelling aircraft and as it did see limited use as a recce aircraft), but at the end of the day it's a bit silly to go all-out on one set and ignore aircraft which should've been included right from the start. We still don't have a proper, non-frankenplane Tiffie.
