The Slot

Thats doesn't look like a game shot. You must be using a photograph :o

I realize there are many limitations on making airfields look spot on, I think your choice for Munda was a good one.

That said, here is a pic:

How do you place the palm trees on a map? Do you make a new, blank mission, paste the trees in with the FMB,
then import the coords into the map itself from those values? I'd be happy to help with the FMB end of things since I've shown myself to be pretty clueless with the other map tools, lol. I'd like to see the trees moved back a little towards the treeline. Note that
the 8 G4Ms in the image taxied themselves there after landing Big Grin Dunno if they would taxi into a revetment if you put one there on
the map... that would be damn cool to try.

BTW, this image is taken somewhat S to N. While the dispersal areas cannot match the map posted above, I wonder if a tiny bump
of a hill could be placed in the upper right corner near the airfield as a sort of Kokemgolo Hill. Possibly another at the upper left someplace.

I forgot to check for "Munda Point"

Ah I will have to check that area. I played around with the 2D tree texture at Munda but I didnt move the trees back to the tree line. My oopsie.

Just so you know, the tool that controls the static object is just a different version of the FMB... I'll see if I cant add a bump in the middle of the clearing.

So far I'm taking notes of all the things that have been pointed out and am fixing them as I go along. I should have a second version for you guys pretty soon.

8) excellent work mate!

Such a program exists for modders? I'm perfectly skilled in FMB use... THAT is something I can help with if needed.

Get in touch with Zo, he'll give you what you need.

Although there is one problem with modifying the static objects. You cant splice specific things in. So if you make changes to the actors.static file on your end, I wont be able to splice in what you've done into mine.

In order to collaborate, then, people would have to pass a current version to one person to work on, have him give it back to the leader, and it goes to whoever else then, right?

Exactly.

Cheech has volunteered to do Guadalcanal, and he has the current actors.static file. I cant work on it until he is done basically.

Tell you what, just in case, shoot me your email again via pm. I'll send you what you need to make changes. Then you can get acquainted with the tools, and I'll have you come aboard to change Munda or even all of New Georgia if you want.

you've done an excellent job with this map. Some have expressed concern about the jungle or forested areas but I think they are great! You can forget about trying to ditch in there, better jump or head for open water. I really love this map. Once again, you've done a swell job!

I agree, more jungle is better than less. The only reason to add the odd clear bit is to break the look up. Make the shapes (open areas) small, splotchy, and kinds random.

A few exceptions. If you have a map that shows some particular battles that might have recieved CAS missions, making an area to place trenches, and other targets would be a good idea to increase the mission possibilities.

As for working on the actors, sure I'll give it a shot. I have no particular areas, but I have many images, it's just that hunting them all down, then scanning them is a real PITA. Having them in my lap and just doing it is easier.

Who was it that contacted me via PM to make missions for the "Trident" on my map? I think I lost their PM.

Some seem to feel that the scenery is monotonous. However, when you fly over vast forested or huge jungle areas they give you that very feeling. Easy to get lost or to loose your bearings. I think you have captured it about right. Be careful what you change remember: "First of all, Do no harm." She looks great.

Skunk,

Sorry for the broken record, but I'm still unmoddable (but the 1946 DVD has been shipped, finally). Like Spud, the one thing I can do is work the FMB. FlatSpinMan will vouch for me on that score (the checks in the mail, Jude, honest!), my mission pack at Flying Legends was downloaded alot with good reviews, and I really would like to help on this project. Like a lot of others here, I've been wanting the Slot-to-Rabaul map for years. I even built-out Rabaul and its airfields (and volcanoes!) using Milne Bay on the NG map. I'll volunteer for Rabaul when you get there, or any place on this map that doesn't have any takers. Thanks.
