The Slot

After I reduced 2D map in size, loading time in FMB dropped from about 6 minutes to 45 seconds.
Once when in FMB and in mission, everything is OK, frame rate and all is as usual.

I have tried that on machine specifications as follows:

AMD Athlon 1600+ (1,4 GHz)
512 Mb of RAM
Nvidia 6600Le 128Mb/128bt

Nothing overclocked.

My map loads in ~14 seconds for single missions. I only have maybe a dozen planes and a few ships though.

2GB ram

I just found out about this site and your work on what is probably the most requested map since the release of Pacific Fighters. All I can say is "WOW!!!!!" I am impressed and am anxiously awaiting its release.

I haven't posted in a few days, as I have been working hard on populating Tulagi. I have tried to match the actual locations, as much as humanly possible, and just wanted to share some screen shots. I still have some minor tweaking to do (fenches, boxes, etc.) , but this is pretty much what you will see in-game. 8)

spud, what do you think about ground airfield texures sach as Burma map? I think it's interesting variant. I know what it's not the best choice for historical accuracy, but in our game it's impossible to do absolutely accurate landscape. I think Burma airfields textures are the best choice for jungle areas now.

Also i propose to do airfields more easy, with less quantity of objects, because Slot map is very LARGE.

I tried those textures, MAHA and the come out way too dark. They dont seem to mix in well with the general ambiance that this map has.

I'm intrigued by the use of dirt instead of the lighter sand for inland airfields, actually.

The harsh light sand (and coral) color is very apparent in virtually all the coastal fields, however (Munda, Ondonga, Sterling, Ballale, Barakoma, etc).

As for object counts, I am only adding runways, taxiways, and some revetments. No towers, no hangers, nothing else. IMO, the mission builders can add those as needed. So while I do have complex taxiways, they are really no more such ground plates than some of the large "stock" airfields in PF.

I actually have some of the parking at Kahili as grass plates, and others as dirt right now...

As for object count, there are very few objects on this map, especially when you compare it to maps like Kiev. Ninety percent of the villages are nothing more than 20-30 grass huts and a few palm trees; the plantations are about the same, with a quay thrown in for copra shipments. The only areas I put any work into accurate object placement are Tulagi, Gavutu, and Tanambogo islands.
