So can we expect some Mod coops on HL?
No, I don't use any mods. Presently, I'm doing some research in this area.
As the Godfather said...."Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer."
Players using mods are messing up my coops and I'm trying to find a way to solve any or all of these problems without actually having to ban these players.
Many servers are banning the Sound Mod but I prefer not to if I can help it. I don't have anything against players using the Sound Mod, even though I don't use it myself.
However, there seem to be some kind of bug(s) associated with some of these mods that I've seen in my coops. For instance, when a modded player chooses to fly (or maybe even just clicks on one of the AI planes), (which only THEY see as flyable because of their mod) an AI plane, I ve seen some strange things happen.
One thing I've seen several times is that some players are complaining that there are no more flyable planes to choose or that all RED planes or all BLUE plane are taken, even though as host I'm sitting there and can see plenty of available planes.
It seems as though if a modded player takes an AI plane (that was never intended to be flown, since it's an AI-only plane), it 'steals' one or more of the flyable planes from the list. The result is that other players cannot now see these flyable planes, although as the host, I can somehow see them.
Another problem I just started seeing is this one. Everyone chooses a plane and I start the mission. All of a sudden, some players are typing in the chat..."Hey....I have no plane!"
The other day, I started a coop mission (in other words, the mission started...we were all flying)and 2 players (one modded and one was not) had no plane. I guess they were stuck on some screen, I didn't ask. I know at least 2 modded players in that mission had taken AI planes.
Now, these seem to be actual bugs related directly to modded players choosing to fly AI planes that were never meant to be flown by a human in my missions.
However, there are other reasons why modded players taking AI planes can mess up a coop mission. I won't go into this right now because that's not why I posted here...plus I'm getting tired of typing.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm actually trying to work with the modders (not the cheaters, of course) so I don't have to resort to banning the Sound Mod from my coops, as many servers have now done.
Happy Flying!
