P-47 Thunderbolt cockpit modding references and discussion

poncho Wrote:weathered or new looking textures for the P47 cockpit repaint. I know that weathered textures are very popular right now, I like them too.

However, I don't know why -but I find myself wanting to see the P47 cockpit in factory new condition - for once.

I think the simplest solution would be to do both Wink

Are the parts mentioned viable replacements to begin with you think? (Let alone technically viable.)

The factory fresh should be straight forward and submitted. The weathering is for the masters to do their magic.

First render of trim controller. Adjustments needed of course.

Just a thankyou to all working on this, the most needed mod IMO. Just the gunsights make a huge improvement, cheers.

Trim controllers working up fine.

taurus, are you reskinning the Jug cockpit or are you attempting to remodel it? Hard to tell from your images :?

LOL Bee! Skinning! But I jumped off into the deep end in starting to learn how to model 3d to get those textures. IF 1c ever give us a modelling program for SOW/IL2 then I will be in "boots and all" making pits.

Is it possible to incorporate into the D-10?;

P-51B
Oxygen regulator
LHS Light

P-63
Joystick
Rudder Pedal Assemblies

I took a look at these parts and they seem to be individually meshed for the the most part, and should be usable in the new cockpit. Right now, I am going to concentrate on making the finishing touches on the gunsight mod. When that is finished I will extract and rename these new parts, and send them to you.

Good Luck

That is good news poncho. I am sure everyone would agree that the gunsights are much more important and should be finished first before anything else.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

cheers,

taurus.

I just uploaded the latest, and I hope nearly final version of the gunsight mod. It can be found in the WIP section. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Thanks everyone for testing the new sights, I'm glad they seem to be working, usually some unexpected thing turns up.

Anyway, getting back to business-

Taurus,

I replaced the old D10 stick and rudder assembly, with the P63 components you suggested. There is color discontinuity where the new stick meets the old textures, but this could probably be skinned to match. Other than that the stick works fine. The rudder pedals move in the wrong plane so some work is needed there. Also the pedals are meshed separately so you could insert which ever ones suit you. I will check on the P51B parts tomorrow.

Well done Poncho! excellent work.

If it were me I would definitely go for the new stick. (A little straighter than the original jug.) The textures for the leather cover can be easily corrected. *When I checked, the better stick is way out of position compared to the original jug stick. After seeing that, I concentrated on applying the new texture to the old stick and I think that will work better than an overall new stick replacement. Pics to follow...

Am I correct in saying that you would be able to drop in whatever mesh is required to replace the existing rudder pedal? (I will send you the texture for the new rudder pedal to see what you think.) *The mechanics of movement look the same for the P-47 as the P-63. The 63 has so much more detail. I hope we can get the 63's to work in the jug.

[*Edit: further investigation warranted change. And changed the edit to yellow... ]

Not checked this post for ages - and i'm amazed at the work being done here, keep it up!

The P47 must be the absolute worst 'pit of the lot, how it got accepted for release remains a mystery to me!
