P-47 Thunderbolt cockpit modding references and discussion

That would be great if you could find the link Diablo. Every little bit helps.

Taurus, Poncho, please refer to the links below.
It would appear that all models D through N had this style of throttle handle (The silver thingy):

Another:

And still another, this time an N model:

Sorry I couldn't do any better than this Sad

You did better than this... I have not seen some of that reference before so many thanks Chris.

Thanks to Diablo's reference, I was able review the training films. Oh so much good info there too!. Remember your clockwise drill

Unfortunately Poncho it looks like the long throttle handle is it.

PC's have been chugging away at hi res texture renders so it it will be a little while before they are ready to fit. So nothing flash to report at the moment.

The havana smoke is getting denser in the eastlands.

Now if we could just get the "one shot engine kill" problem resolved, the P-47 would be just about perfect. Tongue

Just as bad is the tail falling off every time you take a hit in it. For me that's even worse, unless of course I'm attacking a bomber.

My peeve is the engine issue, which seems to affect alot of planes. I wish there were a mod to get rid of it, but in order to be fair it would probably have to be a universal change.
Still, if it were possible to do it a plane at a time, it could be done through the creation of new slot planes, perhaps in the spirit of the 1% planes of CFS2.
Someone would have to know how to tweak damage models though.

Hello All,

Taurus, thanks for the new TGAs. Good work. Big Grin

Gunsight note: There was problem with my gunsight mod and FMB that I wanted to correct this weekend. I fixed it and will upload the repaired version om Monday AM.

Cockpit Report: Here are some of the things I have been experimenting with.

First, I replaced the throttle lever with one from the Tempest. In addition to the improved quality, I think it is more accurate. It still needs a little adjustment in position (and maybe proportion), but mechanically it is moving correctly.

The other thing I was trying to do was to refine the area between the panel and the firewall to give it a more complete appearance. I added some panel edging and some cowling behind the panel. I had seen this type of arrangement in a sceen shot from another flight sim. I'm not sure if it is correct or not because I have not seen it in any cockpit shots of actual P47s.

Anyway this was just an experiment. If the new 3D tools become a reality we won't need to get our parts in such a roundabout way. :?

Poncho,
This definitely is starting to look more like a genuilne P-47 pit. I think you hit the nail on the head with the Tempest throttle, and the cockpit flooring, etc. as well as the repositioned components really add to the authenticity.
If I would be permitted to share a thought or two:
Have a look at the F4F Wildcat dash in-game. In the center of the panel is a large "hole"; it almost looks like a missing gauge or something. It si filled with vague, non-descript "wiring and cabling" Could the large dark area in the P-47 panel not be filled with some similar garphic? I think this would be most convincing if done correctly. (Please check out my links in my post of a day or two ago)

Great work to all on th Jug Team, I can't wait to see the final fruits of your labors.

Chris,

We could put some wires etc. in that hole. That seems to be the most typical thing in most of the photos I have seen too. It is tempting to put a radio in there, but that would be wrong for the razorback. On another simmed version their solution was to put 2 pilot reference placards in that spot.

Another thing that has been bugging me all along is the large space between the instrument panel and the firewall in the Razorbacks. In the bubble canopy versions the space is much less. Is this accurate? It seems wrong.

Agreed Chris!

The panel.tga texture covers that black area and it is set to transparent at the moment. I have layed a texture in there before but it looks too close to the panel layer. I will need to shadow the lines to merge them back into the background. Will work on it.

(nice to see that you got the files okay poncho.)

Poncho

Hi Poncho,
I will check my references regarding the firewall / panel space and get back with you with something useful if I can Big Grin
