I'd have the roofs slightly darker and bluer, but this is already certainly much believable, congrats ! Big Grin

Looks great Joe. The map is big enough to include London and Paris now? You've been expanding.....

Canonuk, you're nearly there IMHO.
Facades just need a little more variety - Hausmannian buildings look identical but they difer in many subtle ways (moldings around and above windows and doors, balconies etc.) - it all depends on how many texture maps you're using and how flexible they are.

Just before I forget it: your previous city blocks would do fine for some of oldest Paris areas - esp. around Montmartre and east, along with industrial facilities (warehouses, workshops, gasholder and HUGE railway system) - so DON'T chuck them away!

Keep up the good work - and kudos already Wink

changai - thanks for the pointers. I can add a little more variety to the buildings, but because I'm designing all my city objects with FPS in mind, the number of texture maps is a little limited. I'm sure I can chuck a little more variety in there though,

Yes, I noticed on Google Earth that around Montmartre are similar buildings to the city blocks I had already made.

Could you check your PMs for a little favour?

Thanks

Joe

Will there be the Eiffel Tower? It wouldn't be Paris without the epitome of France's culture. In other words, PPLLLLLEEEEAAASSSEE?

Canon, really great job, you did in fact succeeded in capturing the main essence of Haussman architecture... More variety may be better but I still think that when flying low at 400 kms/h we won't notice that.

As already pointed out, yes the zinc roof shall be mainly dark grey on the extremity and blue grey close to brighter area (those hit by the sun if any that day^^).

With regards to your question on use of your previous blocks vs your new ones, here is attached a quick global map of paris whereby I tried to identify type of block architecture by "Arrondissement" :

The numbers are the number of each arrondissement

The blue stripped zone are those where haussman architecture exists at WWII time

The red stripped zone are those where "suburbs" architecture may have been at WWII time (for the one in 3rd arrondissement it is an area called "the Marais", a very old part of Paris absolutely not modified by Haussmann)

the white lines are the biggest city roads of paris called grand boulevards, they should also form multiple branchs of a star starting from "place de l'

Finally someone taking FPS and architecture seriously at the same time! I can see how this can grow into a Sisyphus-work, I just hope our good Canon finds a way to do this without going bonkers.

Been watching this thread with the greatest interest for some time.
Congratulations Canon on your work so far and all the new skills you have been learning.

While on the subject of customised objects, I was wondering if you were familiar with these Luftwaffe rescue buoys that were moored at intervals along the Channel. They would make a great addition to the map and be a welcome sight to some less fortunate 109's.
