i'd say it just does not agree with with nvidia cards. my father's computer is brand spankin new with the same card (nvidia geforce 9800 gt) and his stalls exactly the same way mine does. totally random times. i've installed the new dlls (on his and mine) to no avail, i've cranked up the fan speed to 80% where it now sounds like a v8 in my computer, and i've made sure all the overclocking is turn to its minimun settings.

is there anything else i can try?

I have the same problem. Kov, did you try rolling back your JAVA software to an earlier version? Was wondering if that worked. I was worried if that would cause any issues also.

EDIT: Funny thing about this for me is, if I switch video mode to DX INSTEAD of openGL, my crashes go away. But since I want the juicy perfect settings, I'd really like to be able to use openGL. and the crashing began before i changed any config settings.

battlesign- i totally uninstalled java (well at least i think i did). i don't even know what the #### java is or why i need it, or why it was even on my computer? it seems like a pointless piece of ####. anyway, no. that didn't seem to solve my problem.

it seems that alot of people are trying solve this issue. i can't figure it out for the life of me.

have u noticed that running in dx instead of opengl gets rid of the crashes? worked for me, but of course i lose out on the nice graphics. i noticed im getting a video driver error on my crashes. i have an nvidia 9800gtx 512mb. i cant seem to find the error report though.

You guys are chasing ghosts. This is a known problem with Nvidia cards/Vista, and heat is involved in the mix.

Until Vista service pack 2 is released, use the Nvidia control panel to set your fan speed to 100% when you play IL-2 (or other graphics-intensive programs). Riva tuner can set the fan as well, but it is not necessary.

There is also a Microsoft hotfix available (I believe that it is number 953186). The install for that scared me off.

yeah im afraid von is correct, but it also affects recent ati cards. The only difference is the error message reads "ATI driver '''''''' has failed but recovered". Heat is an important issue as well. It is strange that it mostly affects IL-2 though... maybe because of the opengl. there isnt many games that use gl

battlesign- yeah, i have noticed that, but i don't think the game is worth playing with crappy graphics. i simply refuse to settle for less when i payed for a kick ass computer thats suppose to eat these games for breakfast. i have the same video card as you - a 9800 nvidia.

i've cranked up the fan to 100% now, i'll see if that at least pulls the problem up a little.
