[MOD] "WIP" XP-86 Sabre v1.02 *update* need skinne

May I say, awesome job! Beautiful piece of work on this!

I have a Question. Maybe its been answered already, and I missed it, but I remember reading a few pages back that there was to be an Air-brake built into the modeling. Anyone know when that version of the 86 will be released? Thanks ~S~ Tongue

Will the Mig15 use the Mig9 Cockpit in the initial "Full Realease"? Its actually a lot closer a standin than the F-80's cockpit is for the Sabre. The canopy framing and the cockpit layout are very similar.

PeterD,

As this was almost a standard feature of all operational Sabres, are you going to put the drop tanks as a load out on the next release, if so, where will the drop tanks pick up their skin from ?. Will they have a silver/metalic finish?

I only ask as most of the painted skins ( USN etc) have a colour scheme that also includes these tanks.

Will it be possible to produce a number of additional "user defined" tanks (either in the original release or as a modders extra) to allow for a range of different colour scheme tanks from the loadout selection?

Very unlikely. I could try tying the default droptank skin name to some parameter perhaps, so that if you change the skin in the drop menu ingame it would swap the droptank too looking for another skin, but I can see a number of problems associated to that. Maybe after release :?

PS: Yes, droptanks will be included

What you are saying here is that if i for example choose Skin A it will go and find Droptank Skin C in the mods folder and if I choose skin B it will choose Droptank skin D in the mods folder...

If you have a look on the Fw190A series the earlier ones don't have a rack on the bottom of the fuselage so when they choose a bomb it is taken from a seperate skin that is already painted by default. With the later series they have the rack by default already even if no bomb so the rack itself is mapped onto the skin bmp.

I have never thought of it the above way that I stated in the first paragraph if that is what you mean... The way I saw it was that if you map the droptanks onto the normal skin bmp file that all skinners paint so they can paint it whatever colour they want just like if it was part of the plane. This may mean that Droptanks must be a default loadout so that we can paint them like the Fw190A series (late versions). These droptanks can be disposed if the user decides not to use them although historically they were probably used every single mission anyway. Or I was thinking there might of been a possibility to map it onto the normal skin file anyway but still have the default loadout as without the droptanks...

Either way I don't think people would mind if the droptanks were mapped onto the skin and if they didn't want it they would have to drop it every time they spawned....

I'm not sure if you haven't noticed it, but really there is no space left in the main skin for the pylons, much less for the droptanks Smile

Looks like the external tanks will be like the Helmet for the pilot. While you can paint the helmet.tga any color you want, no other player will see it because it does not DL like the skin does. It also means that every plane that flies the tanks will show your tanks and not the player's on the other end and he will only see the paintscheme for his tanks on ALL Sabres regardlees of the planes paintscheme.

Pretty much like any other aircraft ingame right now, yes. Smile

Whilst true, you could sacrifice resolution quality for it.. you have a little space where you put your credits if you make them relatively low res... alternatively you could juggle the dash and that space to increase the res. Just a suggestion... might be better than nothing Smile

Well in the sig area, if you have the droptank rotated at a slanting angle on the skin it should fit in a relatively gd size anyway... and if we have both sides mirrored as I'm pretty sure they were rather than one side different to the other then that would be simple and we as skinners don't have to paint both sides Tongue

Yeah... but it would really kill any detail in the droptanks Sad (not that they have much to show...) The least acceptable size would be 2 areas of 256x64 (one for each droptank side) imho, which is roughly half the res the wings are getting in comparision.

Yup, well as I said, it was just a suggestion. Your other option is you could always make several different drop tank load out options, with differing, yet still semi-generic, skins as option. That would be a longer route though.

Just some thoughts

I wish it was that simple Sad. Your suggestion involves remapping a big chunk of the aircraft and quite frankly, I don't feel like doing that.
