New map: Kt_Viipuri - version 1.0 available!
#16

I'm just wrapping up construction of my 40 mission Talvisota campaign and here you go throwing a monkey wrench into the works! This is awesome! I love the Viipuri Citadel. Are you modeling Summa village and Honkaniemi Depot by chance? I had to do them (or their remains) myself for a couple missions.

I'm strugling with winter textures. I quess i need to make a fresh install with vanilla AAA AI 1.1.
I always forget that some mods have confllicts with eachother. Now all my trees are summertrees in wintermap. And some other texture like airfields are a mess
Summer map works fine! And it is done. I just need to make inflight maps.
I haven't modelled Summa and Honkaniemi. I just use default objects, if that's what ya mean. Due IL2 engine limitations, it is almost impossible to make places historically correct Cry
Even the railroads and roads are hard to put in place, because those bridgeobjects sucks bigtime.
BTW! For playability reasons, my airfields are not excatly 100% historically correct either!
I do these maps for fun, not to make them like they excatly were in ww2  I just want them to look good!

I think its always best to use default objects, if you ask me. Then you get a map that REALLY works for everyone. It will be much more used that way.

Many of the special objects are really very nice, but they can sometimes be quite a hassle...

@Poltava. I agree. I wasted many hours again just to fix my maps. I'm done and the maps are ready. I tested them with vanilla AAA UI 1.1 and everything seems to be ok. ( had to reinstall UI 1.1).
I will upload beta tonight! Hope you guys like it!
Gotta run now, boss is watching.lol!

Here it is! My Kt_Viipuri map for betatesting:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=5c3e ... 5c77a49feb
I have tested it with vanilla AAA UI1.1 without any problems. How ever, if you have mods with tree objects, that may cause summer trees to appear in wintermaps (trees are green). I'm not sure what mod causes that. So before you start to send bug reports about that, check here and test again:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\MapMods\Maps\_Tex
Rename or cut/paste somewhere else.
I have made 4 different load.inis for different seasons. Not autumn, but early summer, late summer winter early with water open and frozen water.
Manual Installation:

The whole Kt_viipuri folder is added or exctracted under:

MODS/MapMods/Maps/

IMPORTANT!

Add these lines to the All.ini file: (You find these also in included readme file)

Kt_viipuri Kt_viipuri/load.ini
Kt_viipuri_winter Kt_viipuri/load_winter.ini
Kt_viipuri_winter_e Kt_viipuri/load_winter_e.ini
Kt_viipuri_AA11 Kt_viipuri/load_U.ini

This map is made with AAA UI 1.1
Please, let me know if you find any bugs

I forgot to say thankyou to all the modders that have made these beautifull textures. You all know, who you are.
And i did leave airfields very simple for mission builders. And also there is plenty of space to use all the new objects from TOW and make campaigns, so i can play them
EDIT:
Inflight maps are not very good. My photoshop skills sucks!

My goodness. There is something to be said for long dark winters up in the North if you have time to make a map with such object detail. The cities are simply astounding in their complexity and attention to detail. I never even knew all those objects were available in the game ... and in any case you've combined them in a very authentic looking manner.

Hats off ...

THX m8!
I wanted to make Viipuri to look live. There is certain chaos. All the objects are from 409m version. If you look to my Kt_Finland, you find that my Helsinki looks too clean. City of Turku and Tallinn looks more natural to mee. As said before, map making is always balancing with playability and eyecandy.
I think that Oleg has the same problem and he did not have time or resources to make each city individual. Anyways, it was annoying to fly over stock Viipuri. Finnsgulf is still the best original IL2 map though.

I found this. It is a really good documentary about Viipuri. This has been made by FST. Finlands Swedish Television.

Outstanding work from you as always kapteeni. Ever thought of re-doing the stock Finnish Gulf map?

Only one critisism, no seaplane takeoff or landing spot.

I decided to take a PBN with the latest cockpit from Ranwers for a look around.

Dang! seaplane station. I was planning that too...I will make it in patch after releasing the map. It is not essential at the moment.
About big Finnsgulf map. I planned that, but it is too big for me to handle. Besides, if you edit the load.ini, it is quite good looking, (except the cities).
