Hi gents
So, i spent the entire weekend reinstalling IL2 and getting it to work as it once did. I'm running a dual-boot system, with XP Pro and Win 7 RC 32-bit. Win 7 was working fantastically until 2 days ago, when i started getting system freeze-ups at any given time, whether i was using it or not. No errors, nothing, just a total freeze up.
This is only happening on the Win 7 OS, Xp is still humming along nicely, as i'm used to..
I've tried reinstalling Win 7 - still gets the freezeups; Formatted the HD and reinstalled Win 7....whille setting up internet, having a look at fly_zo's post about the new 186 drivers, and thought i'd give them a try....just as that page was loading...you guessed it, system freeze-up. This knid of system freezing, in my experience, is generally because of a windows registry fault, but in this case, I just don't get it. It's a newly-formatted drive, fresh Win 7, NOTHING else installed, and crash.....
if there was a recognised error, i'd have something to work with, but its just a freeze-up, with no error messages. I've tried every option available to me, sytem restore, memory tests, etc.....nothing has yielded any results.
I have 4GB RAM onboard...it used to be 2GB, but I upgraded to 4 last week. I thought maybe the new RAM might be the issue, but so far haven't been able to pinpoint it....besides, the XP OS is quite happy, and if it was faulty RAm, surely it would affect XP as well?
Anyway, I'm now uninstalling Win 7, which is a pity, because it looks like a decent OS, but i can't work with something that freezes up at random like this. The freezeups generally occur within the 1st half-hour of operating, but sometimes it will go more than 12 hours, with me doing all kinds of work, before suddenly freezing. Most times, however, it just freezes up by itself without me runining any apps.
I don't expect anyone to have answers ready, as Win 7 is basically still beta, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them.
Cheers 8)
PS: this is the next in a long line of PC/IL2 woes that have been plaguing me for months now, some of you will know. Its at times like this when i don't know whether to laugh or to cry, but i'm going to opt for laughter...the laughter of someone who is about to become a homicidal maniac...
