Ive always wanted to get involved and make my own mods but im not sure where to start or what i even need :???: any one have any suggestions?

Fish around the with the SFS extractor to find the object I want?

Repack the SFS with?
Package my mod by doing ?
Anyway, not trying to be a pain, but I'd be happy to dive in a bit with a little starter info (I'm not familar with these tools, but have some modeling experience with Autodesk Inventor and am a former professional programmer - but not in Java).
