Map building tutorial

map_c.tga & map_c.tga_table are both corrupt. There must be something wrong with your game, or
you are doing something wrong to them.

Can you copy the bldconf.ini from your il2fb game to your map builder game (keep the map builder "bldconf.ini" in a safe place). Then save a mission in the map builder game & see if it's OK.

I done with manam mission> mission loading failed: no map in mission file
the same with HB_PaacificIslands

Sorry, my mistake. I forgot there is no Missions folder in the map building game.

You need to create a new folder called "Missions" in the IL-2 map builder game, or just copy
your Missions folder from il2fb.

I hope this works.

No problem, thanks anyway, I try.
Waiting, I added texture in building map/FMB wood and other land, after save and past new map_T.tga that I found in map builder/maps/manam in il2fb/MODS/mapmods/manam and all work well...

Hello Kevinp, could you tell me if it is possible to have a new map load with the whole map covered in a texture of your choice? The reason I ask is that the map in your tutorial and those Kirby has uploaded all seem to load with what I would consider to be default textures, can these be altered or is this something coded into the game. I've textured my manam map but it is a long and tedious process, if I was to keep clicking on the map to add certain textures it will take forever with something like the South Vietnam map Kirby has uploaded, surely there is a quicker method.

Wishing you all the best, Pete. :?

Hi Mission_bug

Yes, it is possible to load a new map covered in a texture of your choice.

You need to open "map_T" & bucket fill all the land with black. Then open the" load.ini" file &
go to the first line in the [FIELDS] section, which is "LowLand0". Write the name of the texture
you want to cover the land with here. In the picture below you can see that the first texture
is "land/Pacific/Okinawa.tga" This is the one you need to change.

Another way to texture large areas quickly is to first select the texture you want in the "Object"
box, then Right click the map & in the box that appears select Fill Tile Size 9. Then place your
pointer over the area you want to tile, press & hold the F key on your keyboard, & move the
pointer over the map. You don't need to left click the mouse, just press the F key.

There is another way to texture the land, using Microdem. Included with Clockwatcher's elevation colors
is a file called Terrain texture 16 RGB v2.dbf. You can use this in Microdem to create map_T but you have to set the map pixel size to 200 when using this file because scaling map_T up or down afterwards would ruin it.

Thanks very much for that Kevin, I'll give each of those a try.

Hi their kevinp... I also happen to do your tutorial for map building and i think its a great idea for many people to build maps, then we can have a lot of fun and historically related map, as i was following you tutorial i m quiet sure i did exacty everything till page50, but when i load the game and goto Full mission builder i cant find the map "Manam" on the "Load map" list

Initally what i did was, i installed a fresh copy of il2 forgotten battles in another PC and patched it to 4.08m and then transfered the whole game into my PC and did all the necessery modification as mentined in you tutorial PDF.

Hi nuk3m

If you can't see "HB_pacificIslands" on the Load map list either, then it almost certainly means your
game is not set up to use Mods. You need to install a Mod activator or download my game from the
link on page 10 of my tutorial.

Get your Mod activator here -
(The link is inoperative)

I suggest you use Ver 9.0 to be safe as this is the one I use.

When I place objects on the map and hit save, will the map builder game save the new Actors file in the IL-2 Map Builder/Maps folder every time? Is there a way to make it save to IL-2 Map Builder/MODS/Map Mods/Maps/Manam? I think I typed all that out correctly. Thanks again.

Applying textures to map_T in GIMP is giving me fits, anytime I try to apply texture to map T in GIMP it will not load I'm sure there is something simple that I have forgotten to do but I can't seem to find the answer in the tutorials. I opened my map in the map builder game and applied some textures using the FMB, I noticed that the game created an edited map_T in the Maps folder. All the areas that I added texture in the FMB were shown on the new map_T (RGB 12, country). Now, I opened the new map_T with gimp, selected RGB12 and painted on more of the texture I was careful not to paint it onto the water or anything but it will not load. I get the following error message in the FMB when I try to load the map..

World.land().LoadMap()eror:java.lang.Runtime Exception:Landscape 'Manam/load.ini loading error

I also tried blurring the shorelines to make shallow water like the tutorial tells you to do but when I do this It creates a tangled mess of diff. textures over the entire map. It isn't even recognizable as the orig. map. Thankfully I saved copies of everything so starting over isn't a problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you again,
Spit

Hi Spitslayer

Whenever a map doesn't load, press the Shift & Tab keys on your keyboard together. You will see an error message in the bottom left of the screen. This will give you a clue as to what the problem is.

It sounds like you'r blurring the shoreline of map_T instead of Mymap_c

Cheers

You can send me your map_T using the upload link below & I'll try & find the problem

You are a life saver Kevin, the Shift-Tab thing got me straitened out. When I edited map_T with GIMP I would hit Save instead of Save As, it was adding RLE compression apparently you must hit Save As so you can uncheck RLE compression. Got it straitened out. Thank you for all the help.

my ask is: .... Are there chances to build a new maps by
copying eny ed_m01.tga as
MYMAP_C and follow entire process
as describes y. tutorial?

By another words.... can i build a new map from maps already
builded for Il2? My idea is to make a new lot smaller map from
big maps.
