If the map had been in the high Andes then it would not have worked very well, as high elevations are suddenly flattened off in the game. You get mountains with table top flats on top. Very silly looking - though you can land on them with some luck ... ha ha.

But this area in map just skirts the Andes so the mountains still look OK ... and give a nice little counterpoint to the otherwise almost flat Chaco area ... It was also fun redoing the map and at the same time embarrassing to see what a mess the first version was ...

Agracier my friend, embarrased why? You made a map that a lots of us enjoyed, played and loved, sure this new version will be better as I'm pretty sure your skills improved over the months, but don't need to feel embarrased about old maps.
BTW Once my seaplane mod is finished If ever :-? Will love to build a campaign using the rivers of the region as seaplane bases.

Update:

It was a bit unexpected that the area around Fortin de Bouqueron turned out so nice with the bombed landscape textures. The trench system also worked far better than expected.

So as an extra touch, both the bombed landscape and especially the trench system around this beleaguered little bastion in the wilderness has been expanded.

Download the rar file, unzip and place the 3 files into your ag_Chaco map directory. Just to be on the safe side though, BACKUP THE 3 FILES you will be overwriting. Just in case. You never know.

Agracier may i ask you something ?

As i'm using now the new il2.exe allowing more memory i'm discovering the populating process in mapmaking. It's esear as no more need to cut the static.ini and all the stuff.

I'm thinking to detail to max the Kyushu harbors, but in my "sea" file in fmb i have only 4 item....i see on your maps that you have more material for habors.

Is things you get when you install Canon's maps ? Where should i look for on fmb to find more harbor material.

The harbor or seafront material is located in many different sub folders of objects. It is a mess as far as organizing goes, but after a while you do get used to it.

In any case, you can use concreteplates for harbor quays - square and rectangular shapes - you can also use Cal-Tarmac plates, there are also very small harbor quays in Houses of Norway (why not?), I think in either Houses of Piter there are also long rectangular dark colored parts that are used as quaysides (at the end of the list), harbor cranes are in Pacific Houses, and very useful as a breakwater at the end of a harbor quay are Flak Tower from Furniture sub folder ...

The best thing to do really is rather to copy and paste from existing maps. Then after pasting, change things around, add things or just use the pasted objects to find out their names ...

I think Canons Objects has several harbor objects too - can't immediatey recall their names, but there are braekwaters i think ...

It would be a good idea to have a kinf of encyclopedia of objets for mapmakers, each one with a photo and path file

I'm quite certain such a file or program already exists. But I believe it uses the object numbering system as used in the normal FMB ... so you get an incredibly long list of objects from 1 through heavens knows how high - more than 1000 possibly.

But I believe that numbering sequences are not standard - one install will differ from another - and neither does it use the map-maker sequences of sub-folders ...

Yea i see what you mean. A classification by number would not be a good idea. Maybe by fmb category, i mean for "sea" for exemple a classification by pic whatever the number is...and so on...Tow, house.....

Is anyone having problems with take offs and landings? My planes are starting outside the runways.

The planes are starting out of the runway in some airfields because of the inverted direction of the take-off path.

This is actually a minor issue that can be easily corrected.

I would like to suggest to Agracier to make a fix for this little but annoyng issue. And maybe to make some parking paths in some of the airfields that have none and where the aircraft simply disappear after the landing.

This two issues are not taking away the great work done, and for sure the Chaco Map is a masterpiece.

Maybe a third edition, with a more correct placing of some "cities" and airfields will be very welcome, and I'm offering Agracier my help for that, as I have some very detailed historical maps of the Chaco.

Since I don't know much about making airfields from scratch I've always copied existing airfields off a variety of older maps and then changed their look by adding new buildings, hangars etc. I don't touch anything in the way of runway points, taking off points or such, since I don't know what the effect will be ... it's just copy and paste ...

So if anyone can tell me which airfields have wrong take-off paths I'll see what i can do about it.
