Sandy/muddy harbours...
#1

I have seen some shallow water textures done in brown like dirty river water with low underlying textures as in Bombsaway coral.
This looks really nice, however I wondered if it was possible to intergrate this into a harbour of another map, keeping the ocean nice and blue
but the river and harbour sandy/muddy.
This is a common look from altitude, and one that could really transform the look of a beautiful map into something even better.
Does anyone know if this is possible?

It's just a texture. Edit the map_t to have different colour near the harbours and then give the RGB value an own texture. The gurus can correct me if I am wrong Smile

Sounds possible then? I hope so.

I would like to be able to do this myself, however being such a novice at stuff like this I'd need a Flying Nutcase tutorial to get me thru it.
That would be good.

I've read in other posts that it is apparently possible to have up to 4 different types of water on one and the same map.

But even so, I've not been able to have even 2 different types. Any procedures on how to do this would be appreciated.

Search for the thread Map Building Tutorial and read the tutorial and the beginner's guide to textures carefully. It helps a lot.

Ok I'll do this, but by this comment do you imply that the tutorial shows how to do this? Or are you just suggesting this because of its general helpfullness?

I've studied the map making tutorial more diligently than anything I ever studied in school, but I really cannot recollect anything on making different types of water in one and the same map ...

thanks Agracier, I thought as much. If someone of your skills cant make it happen then theres no point in me even thinking about it.
Shame though as I think this would look outstanding.

It is entirely possible to do this i've been messing around for months to develop a technique by which to apply 4 water textures however it is extremely complicated and time consuming and would require a tutorial all of its own, thats something i might turn to when i have more time! I only have one screenshot of a very early stage in the experiment but it does show clearly 4 water colours, one is by bombsaway and is a reef texture, one is the stock texture that came with the palau map and the other 2 are just random colours that i selected at the time, brown for muddy water and a white 'ish' colour for a sandy lagoon.
The textures are all broken up but this was at an early stage of development and its been perfected since then, i dont want to show current screenshots right now as i want to release it with a new palau map.
