What hurt me is the big stutter on those areas.

I'll look forward for your updates or fixes...thanks.

More I fly over this map more I like it!

Do you still have fps problems with this map ?

Sorry if I may be blunt here, but I was putting some order into my QMBP missions, and realized this excellent looking painted map from redko (many thanks and congrats!) is based on a quite poor version of Peleliu: I also have another Palau installed (not the Online: sorry I cannot trace the creator! Can someone clear my doubts, please?) with the airport already installed, and all the villages detailed; the point is that this redko map base besides the airport missing, has a very poor representation of all the features that are present on the island: Bloody Nose Ridge, the Horseshoe, the Five Sisters etc. I know I'm fussy here, but I'm re-reading the excellent book by Sledge 'With The Old Breed' and I really wanted all the possible features of this important battlefield to be depicted as more closely as possible, and I really would like to see a better model for Peleliu. From that book I understood that the Airport was already finished as depicted in the other Palau map, and that soon after it was conquered by the Marines the Corsairs were already taking off from that strip to bombard the enemy on the ridges just a little more than a mile away...

Note there is also a second airstrip on Ngesebus, and the two roads, East and West...

I don't know the version of Palau you are speaking about but this is just a repaint of the stock map. To have all the hills you are requesting it would need to make a new microdem map...and even with that i'm not shure il2 engine will be able to model this in 3d, through map_h. Your hills will look like pyramids.

The best way to have this, imho would be to create this as a 3d object...the whole palau mounts and caves. This task is for more skilled people than me. i'm just a painter, that's all.

Actually this repaint as been made to take advantage existing missions/campain, in particular Phil_K Peleliu campain here:

http://www.mission4today.com/index.php? ... ls&id=1766

I'm planning to repaint all the stock maps to fit with Phil_K PTO cycle.

Airfields are coming, i'm testing a painting method to get airfields without using tarmac objects....

Hi redko, thanks for your message... and your work! Top notch, really!
Yes, possibly you're right: it would be impossible for the IL2 engine to handle such a detailed map, and even such a detailed 3D object, I believe! I'd been working with 3D FX etc. for some years and to reach a realistic level even for such a small island it would require millions of polygons, so I have to forget about it... Cry
Anyway, talking about the other Palau, I believe I did found out why I have a dir Palau in my MapMods/Maps/ beside yours: it shall be the repaint by vpmedia, since it contains just the load.ini and the online_load.ini files... Your repaint looks terrific, BTW, and far superior to any version. If you like here is another map image that shows where are the villages and the main airstrip orientation:

If I recall correctly, the original map has the airfield close to perfect! I also have one line in that vpmadia Palau/load.ini

AirField0 = land/Pacific/PalauField01.tga

but I cannot find this image anywhere, and it seems is not even registered as an error when loading the map in FMB and checking with the console... Another mystery! Wink

Ok i will check that.

Actually the airfield is finished, it looks different from the pics i posted here which were a working version. Actually i haven't released this version with airfield because this version use airstrip objects, and since i'm working on Lybia map i'm testing another method to make airfield which use a painting method...without airstrip object.

So i want to find which one is better.
