I can save this time, so the map will be playable for me this time ! Big Grin Big Grin

It's really good that the map is flyable for you ... but this just sort of deepens the mystery, since nothing, and really nothing was changed to the actors.static file ... it is the same file as for the original map ...

So there must therefore be other factors that affect flyability of maps, not just which objects are used. Certainly objects are a primary factor, but there must be other things as well that will determine if a map is unflyable for some members ...

So, just for the record - this new version has a new map_t, map_c (and table), load.ini, ed_M01/02 maps and new textures ... which of these things 'cured' the map for some members?

Load.ini and FMB maps seem very unlikely culprits, as does map_t ... so maybe something in map_c? Though I wouldn't know what ...

redko Wrote:This is a very nice map, you found a good harmony in colours, very pastel...a Pissarro work !

This is a map that really could have used some extra texture slots ... normally there are enough slots to get the job done, but 3 or 4 extra textures for use in the mountains would have been better this time ...

agracier Wrote:I think I found the culprit for this very odd glitch/occurrence/fault:

I recently bought a fantastic seamless texture making software program and i ran several of the Andalucia textures through it for the new map version. I didn't notice, but checking now I noticed now it automatically coverts tga files from 1mb in size to 3mb sized files, or in other words from 256 colors to 16million colors ... and for some reason that created problems around the map edges ... (it happened to me as well when i specifically tried it out).

I now reduced the colors of the textures back to 256 colors/1 mb and I've been flying around Ceuta/Gibraltar and Guadix in several missions without any odd visual anomalies ...

I converted them to 1MB, 256 colours but still no joy. Same problem stays...
And actually I don't know if it has something to do with that 'cause you already used some 3MB textures on your Madagascar and Mozambique map and I didn't have any strange graphic behaviour when flying over those areas.
Bad luck for me I guess...

They were a surprise for me too ... they came about by accident when making shallow water around the coastline ... I got annoyed and lost patience and started fooling around and somehow ended up with this. Luckily it's not hard to make. For once I remembered what I did ... ha ha.

I think it's similar to your Palau repaint on the shallow water lagoons ... but made sure that the white dots were whiter along the coastline, then applied the toolbox utility to make map_c and then did not use 'align coast' ... made it on a layered my_mapc so that it was easier to vary the shades of white along the coast ...

EXACTLY !
Making maps is close to a painter technic don't you think Smile ?
I found a delta on your map, it si soooo nice done !

I'll have a little advice to make to break patterns on your sea textures as you used many shallow waters on this map. I have to chek 1-2 things more on your map and i'll be back

*By the way, I'm not that bright, so could you explain, please, exactly how to instal this? Thank you.

The download comes in a zipfile. If you unzip the zip you will get a directory called 'MODS'.

The simple manner to install this is the following:

copy this folder with good ol' crtl+c ...
now go to your game root folder. it will already contain a folder called 'MODS', so what you do is, paste (crtl+v) the unzipped 'MODS' folder here.
your pc will ask if you wish to overwrite a number of files.
you may normally safely say yes, especially if this is your first install of Andalucia, since you will only be overwriting directory structures, not files themselves
and even should you already have the map installed from a previous version, you may still safely answer yes to overwriting (though make a backup of the overwritten files first if you are unsure)

there is a txt file included which is called 'add to all.ini.txt' or something like that. Open it up and copy the line it says to your all.ini file
Your all.ini file is located here:
...MODS/mapmods/maps/all.ini

This should be it ...

Great stuff. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated! 8)

I decreased manually color depth in IrfanView to 256 colors, 8 Bits, of the all files having initially 3MB size, in tex/ag/ Andalucia_2 folder, but with no help: map loads in FMB, the mission there created is saved, can be loaded, but when trying to fly it, the PC freezes, the only remedy being the task manager.
EDIT: I use HSFX4.1.
EDIT No2: I installed the map into my 409 version with SAS modact, first with 3MB texture tga files: the mission created on the map in FMB was saveable and flyable, but with flickering sometimes, which was removed temporarily by pressing any button.
Next, i replaced texture tga files with 1MB ones, as above. And voila: any flickering was removed.
Conclusions: there are two kinds of troubles: 3MB tga files, perhaps for some graphic cards ( I have Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT, Pentium 4 3GHz , 2GB RAM ) and , something in HSFX4.1 install, like observed both Lejo and me .
Further observation :
in my 409SASmodact install, I have older Andalucia maps, while in HSFX4.1, there is only new one, ag_Andalucia_1024 , installed.

Laziness is the mother of progress. My QMB missions can be found here:

Wow...what a beautifull place. It would be interresting to get grey rocky textures instead of the colored ones...or better i colored one with grey parts, like mixx map.

Please try a retex if you wish ... the more variations of any given map the better ...

The nice thing about Andalucia is the variation in landscapes. Here are a few near our house in the Altiplano. There are almost desert brown landscapes, painted colors as in SW USA, gray-brown and also with cultivation and trees ... makes it almost impossible to choose how to do a map ...
