Know anything about converting ship models from one sim to another anyone?
Underwater detail just isn't there, and Im not sure the poly count is correct for Il2, but they could be a start for someone wanting to modify the models.

By the beginning of March 1940, Queen Elizabeth was ready for her secret voyage.
Her Cunard colours were painted over with battleship grey,
and on the morning of the 3rd March she quietly left her moorings in the Clyde

These are from Combat Flight Sim 2. It came out around 2000, so I recon the model detail level isn't over the top for Il2.
The models could be used as is or touched up, though I've no idea how to import them.

Plus many more.
What do people think? Is importing 3D models from other games the way forward or unfeasible and in the end costly?

The first step is to convert them to 3D Studio format, ensuring that all of the texture mapping is preserved.

I experimented with importing models from Silent Hunter but with limited success.

I've emailed the guy who made them asking for Il2/3Ds compatible versions.

If he agrees to provide a textured 3D Studio version then I can help to convert them for IL2.
I would be very interested in the IJN Kongo.
Its about time we had an IJN BB.
They need detail added to the underside of the hull but that could be done later.

Hey Lads,

I thought I'd chime in here. As is known I am not a modder, just a user, but I'd just ask that any mod ship builder
bear in mind the importance of ubiquitous (common) vessel types . These do after all, represent more regular and destructable targets for our airborne ordnance.
Corvettes - Flower Class , Black Swan Class
Minesweeper - Generic
Liberty Ships
LSI - Landing Ship Infantry
LST - Landing Ship Tank
LCT - Landing Craft - Tank
LCR - Landing Craft - Rocket
Tugboats
European River Barge + Cargo
European River Barge + AAA
Pacific Coastal Barge (see CFS2) , Pacific Coastal Barge + Cargo, +AAA, +Cargo and AAA
Small Tramp Steamer , + Radio Mast, + AAA MG, + AAA 20mm, +AA 40mm Bofors
I also think it would be useful to add the harbour barges included in 4.08 as moveable Ships, and add different cargo, AAA Guns and small cranes as loads on these
German E Boat ( actually S Boot, but better known as E Boat)
British Coastal Defence vessel
Vosper or Fairmile fast attack craft

thanks for considering these.
