This will explain how to use freely available satellite SRTM data to create the basic map files.
You will also need the map tools to be able to create map_c.tga

You need to have basic skills in using an image editing programme such as Photoshop or Gimp before you start.
Plan your map first.
The map scale is 50m per pixel for map_c or 200m per pixel for map_T and map_h.
map_c must be a multiple of 32 pixels in both x and y axes for the maps to work.
To get an idea of the file structure of a typical map extract the map files for one of the existing maps or download one of the modded maps and set it up in your MODS folder.
