I run an Intel E6850, 2GB RAM, and an NV8800 GT OC card, 4xaa (multi-sampling), 16xaf, texture rendering set to "quality".

Use dither
Use vertex arrays
Use polygon stipple
Multitexture
Combine
Secondary Color
Vertex Array Extension
Texture anistropic extension
Texture Compress ARB Extension

My Il2: 1946 looks and runs great, even with water=4.
