A tale of death, a patching, and a few missing files.

Where do I find this?

.quick missions are different from QMB or QMBPlus missions... If you've saved your previously created .quick files (found in ...\\Quicks\ ), then simply replace them from your backup.

Note the"s" ... the "IL2\Quicks" folder is different from "IL2\Missions\Quick" or "IL2\Mods\QMBPlus\Missions\Quick"; the latter folders are for QMB Plus missions (.mis files only, such as the "BoBBlueAirbase00.mis" file you found) while the former is for your own created .quick missions. Clear as mud?

ALOTEF Wrote:Another problem facing me is that I canno change the display settings in the "display modes" menu. I need to turn off stencil buffer, but It's not working?
As you can tell, I'm not the most computer literate person, but I managed to patch together a new IL2 version. The reason I did not just re-install is because my friend has the disc, and I could not uninstall for some god-unnkown reason!
Any help? Please?

Not sure I can help with the display settings. That looks like it may be a bad install. You can always make your desired changes by editing the conf.ini file, as long as you have an idea of what you're looking to do. Let's start with which video card you have... ATI or NVidia? Depending on that, ask for folks to paste in their conf.ini video settings sections, allowing you to copy/paste into your own and test.

If you intend to deal with mods -which I assume you'd like to do since you're here- then what you should do is copy your complete, hopefully soon correctly functioning, version 4.08m to a new folder. Use that copy to play with the mods, keeping your pristine original installation as a backup.

Note that once IL-2 is installed, you can make as many copies of the installation folder as you like. All of them will work perfectly well. It's only if you've done a complete un-install (via "Add Remove Programs" or the Uninstall feature from the DVD) that you need to worry about re-installing the game. The reinstallation in that case is more to set the correct registry keys for the game.

Actually, it shouldn't be too difficult for someone to find all the registry keys placed by a clean install off the IL-2 1946 DVD and make a simple .reg file for importing those keys. There may be other issues involved with that (copyrights, etc.) so not sure if it's a good idea.
