Hey ya Lads
Thanks for taking an interest in this little mod
Sorry CAF, I cannot take credit for the sounds. I simply took sounds already existing in the game and re-mixed them. I have been searching a long time for this effect, but when none was available I thought I would just experiement with this idea. I agree that the shrapnel sound could be improved. I was also thinking it should sound more like a shovel-full of hail being thrown hard against a tin roof. So it would be interesting if you could try to mod this part of the sound.
As the sound is linked to the flak sound you will only hear the effect when the 2 types of flak explodes near to your cokpit - this create some randomness (assuming you are inside the cockpit and not using other mods such as Slikks battle sound mod.) I changed the shrapnel sound in each file so that it does not sound repetative while at the same time making it sound that many pieces of shrapnell are striking your plane. I think if you were to mod the shrapnel as above then the second shrapnel sound would not be required to keep the effect more random.
Yea Slikk, you are correct, but the game uses the same sound used when your plane is hit by a bullet for this effect. (Im not sure, but I believe this sound is also associated with some battle damage). Im trying to get the sound effect of a car driving though a short burst of hail - This is what you would hear when you are far enough from the flak to avoid damage, but would hear the falling shrapnel "raining down" on your plane.
Yip, right again, you sould have a nice effect if you can reduce the distance at which you can hear the flak just to try it out, but unfortunatly this would screw up your cool mod.

CAF_Corbo Wrote:edit: I forgot to add that I like the explosion sound, but the shrapnel sound needs to be worked on. A simple pitch edit could make it sound much better. That being said, great idea and nice samples. I don't know if you made them yourself but if you did, you did some good work there.

CAF_Corbo Wrote:And I thought about it, even if there's no way to hear the shrapnel only when the explosions occurs right beside our plane, if we would use 1 sample with it, and the other without it, it could simulate the randomization of the shrapnel. Like I said, I'm talking without even trying it in-game. I just listened to it in winamp, so I don't really know if this issue happens in-game. I'll have to try it tonight.

Slikk Wrote:This is how the game works already. If the flack is close enough to you, and debris from the explosion hits your plain, the game triggers a sound that dose what this mod is simulating. The problem with this mod is that it simulates the impact of your plane being hit by flack every time the sample is triggered. .

Slikk Wrote:The Battle Sounds mod enables you to hear explosions at greater range than the stock game, so if you are not using the Battle Sounds mod, the impact of your plain being hit by flack when the explosion is out of range may not be a problem. .
