I was thinking of palm trees as a wood texture for an arid region, say a desert map that would be painted on in the terrain map_t as an RGB value. The trees would have to be very sparsely spaced perhaps, but it would be a good way to present an oasis, or a coastal strip for instance.
I have a very good map of the Hejaz that I am fooling around with. Maybe not specifically suited to any particular campaign or battle, but the landscape is nice and it necessitate little in the way of cities - and those would be perfect anyway for using the new dlv_Egypt objects ... and even though it is desert and all the Lawrence of Arabia connotations, I remember reading about (date) palm groves and also thorny scrub brush, especially near the inhabited areas.
And while placing palm trees as objects is doable I suppose, it would be easier as a wood texture.
Interested in seeing what you may come up with.
