there is a function to switch off radio for certain planes in a mission (you can find it in FMB i think) and a lot of Japanese campaigns do it for reality since until very late in teh war, radio was only optional and alot of fighter pilots didn't like it because of the weight.

but this function does not apply (as far as I remember) to the landing, so a plane that is quiet all the time will start to chatter in landing pattern.
