Given the disciplined nature of japanese aviators I doubt you'd get the same kind of chatter that you'd get from, say, the americans even if the radios were present. The japanese are a very sociable bunch but they segregate that socialising when performing their duties. These were people who had been inducted into a regime run by a military junta who poured scorn on western values and promoted 'traditional' bushido and culture. Now I would agree there would have been individuals only too happy to engage in light conversation but the 'I exist to serve' culture was accentuated in this period and such talkative behaviour would have been officially frowned upon.
