You are correct I have CERT_AIMOD_V30.exe installed not 1.3. Further testing today against B-17s shows that these gunners cannot be killed either. I assume that this probably is an across the boards thing and no ai controlled aircraft gunner can be killed.

The gunners can be killed in any ai controlled plane, the problem is that to kill a gunner you have to get close enough to the enemy plane to kill the gunner. I suggest trying a qmb mission with invinsiblity on, pick a B-17 or any bomber get close and fire away, but you can't wound the ai gunners their eather alive or dead.
