hello kapteeni
I dont know my way round this website that well ,and slightly amazed i refound this post lol
i dont know the rules of thumb of mapmaking for this IL-2 sim so ....
Can you use a TRN file which is a Nasa data file , hgt file coverted in 3dem to a BIN.file , THEN a converted to a RAW.file by a DOS cmd copy line , THEN the RAW.file is coverted to TRN.file via a program convertor.
i ask because a TRN file you can EDIT the Height values using a CST editor , its manual and total pain in the rear but you can edit 10m x 10m squares on all of the map , basically it breaks the hgt file into 4 value heights for each corner of a 10m square , if you riase the value of one full 10m square UP by extra 30m , then all squares conected with the sides of this raised square are effected only on 2 or 1 corners of these squares depending on there location to the raised square , i notice your IL2 maps use a Black n white Hieght map , are you allowed to Colour this map file ? by using terragen ,which means you can could use terragen to render a basic coloured map . setting say RED colour for any hgt value above 10m and Blue below 1m and Yellow as 1m-10m , then render the map files ,then open it in CST editor again, and be able to see the map hieght of say 10m above sea level with a colour of land over 10m and a different colours for below 10m from sea level.
Then edit the yellow ring around the coastal area of the map.
Wasted typing , but might be of use.
CondorSoaring Flight sim has on the CD , the RAW to TRN convertor and the CST Height Values EDITOR
Then use the editor to change the coastline values to lower the sea level to correct height without distortions that you see on original nasa data files.
A TRN file can not be converted back to a BIN file
