Download cpu-z http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
Use the installer so you get the right version and then run it form the start menu. It will collect info about your processor and then under the CPU tab look for the instructions column, see if you have any of these AMD64, x86-x64 or EM64T. if you have any of these then your processor is 64 bit.
Then download this and see if your computer has any potential hardware issues with Windows 7.

64bit runs faster but your need more system resources and you might find drivers and programs might not work as I under stand it, but I'm shore there's ways round this?
I got the opposite problem according to that advisor, they don't do and 32bit drive for my sound card that's compatible with windows 7, but they do a 64bit driver that is! Have to look into that to see if that's true.
